Boston's North End, best place to eat?
 

Where are the best places to eat in the North End of Boston. And I don't mean expense necessarily. We would like character and good food and a reasonable price. I have been to Mama Maria's and while good, a little too stuffy for what we are looking for.

Need good ole' Italian place.

We had a group of eight and went to Regina Pizzeria in the north end. The best pizza and a real fun restaurant. You will love it. We were there for a football game four days and eat their two nights.

If you ask 100 people, you're likely to get 100 different answers. Lucca, Fiore's and Strega are 3 of the best. I also like Maurizio's and Giacomo's for more casual dining.

Paglucias on Paramentor St. Hands down the best place in the North End.

Family run for years,old fashioned and reasonable. Fun atmosphere as well.

I love Maurizio's; I think Mama Maria's is over-rated. Get onto the streets behind Hanover, and choose one of the little restaurants there.

We love Giacomo's - fabulous food (esp. seafood) and affordable.

Be prepared to wait online outside. It typically goes fairly quickly, though.

Have eaten at some of the places listed above - all are good. Even though I am from the area I still prefer to wander around North End and see what place hits me at that particular moment - times I have headed off with family and friends to specific restaurant, something always goes wrong (there is a party of 25 occupying most of the tables, places next door has better sounding specials)

The Daily Catch at 323 Hanover - small, unpretentious to say the least, and consistently delicious

Ditto Wyatt92 about getting so many different responses.

I love Assagio, and while it's not 'traditional' North End style (aka it actually takes reservations and is huge by N.End standards), I have always liked Fiore too.

L'Osteria, Rabia, and Massiminos have also been good.

Follow your nose, read the menus. The North End gives you lots of great choices. Like Antico Forno-- my "big discovery" last year. Yum! Neighborhood bistro character, great food. It's not a Sicilian "noodles & red sauce" joint, if that's what you mean by "good ol' Italian place". But it's still great.

I second Antico Forno...although now I'm sad it's been "found" on here and I won't be able to get in like I used to.

I second Al Dente as well, but haven't been there since I discovere Antico Forno a few years back.

Picollo Nido, on 257 North St, North End. Good food, reasonable prices, friendly wait staff, not at all stuffy. Never busy b/c it doesn't seem to have been discovered except by locals. Rabia's is also an excellent choice, but a bit more expensive. You can also check out a lot of menus/prices online at opentable.com and menusonline, etc.

There has been a lot of talk about the North End lately. - I know it looks overwhelming. Here is a tip : Hit "Ctrl + F" that makes a search box pop up. Type "North End" and you will see a thread asking what are the best places to eat in the North End

Just in case I confused you ... I meant to hit the Ctrl+F on the Chowhound site. Not here on Fodor's ... I was thinking that I might have made it seem that way. ;-)

My parents (who are in their 60s now) used to go to Joe Tecci's when they were dating. I've haven't been there for years but loved it when I did go and the food was fabulous. However I've heard comments since then that it has become "touristy" and notice it wasn't mentioned in this post. My cousin is having his rehearsal dinner there next year. Should I prepare to be disapointed? Dh and I tried to go a couple of years ago but it was closed, so this meal is going to be highly anticipated!

Regina's, Regina's, Regina's....I love that pizza!

Snowrooster- I'm not a big fan of Joe Tecci's, I think the food is ok and the decor a bit dated. Funny you should mention this restaurant because they recently filed a lawsuit against the city of Boston claining they've lost a lot of business due to the Big Dig. Customers find it hard to navigate around the entrance.
