I'll second Henrietta's table for great regional food. Legal for the freshest and simple well pepared food and you'll never get sick from shell fish as they are famous for their testing.Both utilize our local fisheries or farmers.

don't go to durgin. go to the restaurants like mantra, hammersly's bistro, sage in the north end. if you go to durgin park you'll experience a bad food tourist experience. not that there is anything wrong with that.... <BR> <BR>check out olives in charlestown, grand chow chow in chinatown, franklin cafe in the south end.

Jen <BR> <BR>I have just returned from a trip to the USA from England, we stayed at the Doubletree while we were in Boston. They hotel was quite nice although not in a great location, I was under the impression that we were nearer to the back bay part of town, although it wasn't a huge problem and being Londoners we walked everywhere. The other misleading thing (perhaps I didn't read the info properly) was the swimming pool, you have to use the YMCA pool, which you get to through the hotel, but obviously share it with everyone, it was full of children the one time we tried it. Don't eat in the restaurant either, although the food was Ok, we found the best restaurant that I have ever been to, it is called Maggiano's and is at 4 Columbus Avenue at Park Square. The food was wonderful and the atmosphere was just great, if you order side vegtables, one dish will feed about 4 people!!!

ECHO the person who said Legal Seafood's is overpriced, & I'll add that their seafood is mediochre at best! It must surely be the most overrated restaurant on the planet. <BR>We also tried Elephant Walk & it was sublime. It's actually Cambodian, which is something like French-Vietnamese I've had elsewhere. <BR>For a different twist on "regional," we had a fabulous Italian meal in the North End at Lucia's. The family is from the region of Abruzzo, & they serve specialties from that region - which is pretty rare in this country.

Oh I'm so torn that someone recommended the Franklin. On the one hand, its outstanding, but on the other hand the lines will now get even longer. Up to 2 hour wait at peak time. <BR> <BR>In general the South End has excellent food.

There's a very nice french brasserie (don't remember name) in the colonnade hotel.
