Boston Restaurant near Fleet Center

I need a great restaurant near the Fleet Center for hubby's birthday - we are going afterward to see the Bruins play. He loves seafood, steak and italian. Cost not a factor but we will be wearing bruins clothes so please take that into consideration - thanks! also, what time should we go to make the game - thanks!

First note: they changed the name. It is not the Fleet Center, it is the TD Banknorth Garden (pronounced Gahden).

There are lots of decent pub-like restuarants in the neighborhood (half the patrons will be wearing Bruins clothes), and you are in walking distance from the North End and also Fanuiel Hall areas, so you have lots of choices. (We usually just wander around peering in windows until something looks good, and I don't remember any names, sorry).

How much time to leave depends on the restuarant -- you could ask about that when you make reservations.

Have fun! Go Broons.

I knew there was a name change but I was too lazy to write it! :) also, no pubs, please. thanks!

If you're ruling out pubs then I would recommend The Fours which is across the street. In Fanueil Hall you could try Kingfish (seafood), Rustic Kitchen (American) or Houston's (steak, American). There's always the North End if you want to venture down that way too.

I really want something nice for his birthday (35th) - the places suggested so far don't seem like a "special" place for such dinners.

wyatt92 Feb 14th, 2006 07:58 AM

OK, but you're going in Bruins gear? I still think Kingfish Hall is a good choice. If you want to go to the North End there are plenty of choices, there's been lots of threads on North End dining already.

Another option may be Ruth Chris. I know it's a chain but it's located in the old State House, which is beautiful. Probably about a 15 minute walk to the Garden. Maybe someone else can help but the best restaurants aren't located near the Garden. Now if you want to eat in a different neighborhood and then take the T or a cab, that's a different story.

check out Taranta in the North End - wonderful Italian food - 210 Hanover Street - walking distance to TD Banknorth Garden - www.tarantarist.com

I have heard nothing but negative reviews on Ruth Chris steak restaurant.

I will agree about Taranta. Italian with South American influences. Great Sicilan Steak. Very small place, make a reservation.

I am not sure they can bring their hockey sticks into any of teh above mentioned places.

radiofanatic Feb 14th, 2006 09:54 AM

I promise no hockey sticks! I just wanted to get hubby a bruins jersey to wear to the game (I probably won't be wearing bruins gear) so I wanted him to feel comfortable wearing it out to eat, but still have a nice birthday meal!

what about Angus Steakhouse? I've been to the one in Montreal and loved it. Is the Boston one any good? And is it within walking distance of the fleet center?

milemarker0 Feb 14th, 2006 12:49 PM

Yes, within walking distance to the Garden....never eaten there though, but looks nice!

wyatt92 Feb 14th, 2006 01:15 PM

This is the first I've ever heard of Angus Steakhouse. Not sure if I'd choose it for a special occasion but if you've been to one before and liked it then I guess you'll know what to expect.

radiofanatic, are you staying somewhere in downtown Boston? and what time does the Bruins game start?

One very nice North End restaurant I can think of is Sage, which I've never been to, but have heard good things about. Also, Kingfish Hall or Rustic Kitchen, both in Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market are good choices.

But it all depends on what time the game starts. If its at 7 its going to be very difficult to enjoy a nice meal, you just won't have time. The earliest you can go is 5:30, and that gives you barely an hour to eat and get to the game.

Are you staying a weekend? what about a fabulous Sunday brunch instead?

chobby100 Feb 15th, 2006 06:10 AM

Anthem is much better than the Fours or any of the other pubs. http://www.anthemboston.com/anthem/

IMHO I'd go Boston Beer works if you were looking for a pub situation.

A new restaurant in the North End is the Neptune Oyster (62 Ssalem St. Coming from Haymarket, it is 3 in from the corner on your right), and I finally tried it last week. Absolutely fantastic seafood (the Falmouth oysters were the best I have ever had), and the appetizers were creative and delicious. They have a good selection of wines, and though there is no dessert on the menu, they had a nice Port.

Also, Bova's 24 hour bakery is right down the street.

not sure where exactly staying yet, as I'm doing priceline - I plan it to be in either the DT or Copley area though. The game is at 7 pm so I know we're cutting it kind of short. I thought we would eat at 5 pm - should that be enough time?

radiofanatic Feb 15th, 2006 06:48 AM

and if someone has a recommendation for a fabulous sunday brunch, I would love to hear it!
