Boston: parking at hotel - is this normal?

I called the hotel I'm considering in Boston to see if they have on-site parking and how much it is. Well they tell us it's $40 a day! Valet only. Does that seem way over the top to you? I've never had to park at a hotel in Boston since I've always stayed with friends in the past.

My DH & I go to Boston a few times a year and never park at the hotels due to the cost. We always park at Wellington station which is $3.00 a day then we use the "T" to get around or just walk.

I didn't even think of that - good idea. Where is Wellington station?

It is Revere Beach Parkway (Route 16), east of Route 28, Medford which is north of Boston. The station is on the orange line. I just look at the MBTA website and the rate is now $3.50 per day.

I see you've probably found an alternative parking arrangement, but I thought I'd answer your original question:

Yes, around $40 a day is normal for parking. You can find hotels with self-park for around $30 a day, but that's not that much better, IMO.

Depending on where you are staying, you could probably just park yourself in town at a garage/lot for $20/day. Some places less. I'm not sharing my secret spots, though. :)

When you go to Boston or New York, just open your wallet and throw your money in the air. This eliminates the middle man.

Alewife station - at the western side of Cambridge & at the west end of the Red Line is another choice.

From what direction will you be arriving? What hotel r u staying? It might make a difference in the suggestions you get.
