Boston Park Plaza Hotel

Would like to stay at a hotel near or with a view of the Public Gardens but do not want to pay Four Seasons Hotel rates. Has anyone stayed at the Boston Park Plaza?Or do you have a recommendation for a good hotel in this area?
Thanks for your help,
Barbara

How much do you want to spend? You might bid on Priceline, as the Westin frequently accepts a $70 bid. It's not the Public Gardens, but it is walkable. And you would be in Copley Square, which is an excellent area. The Park Plaza is an older hotel. It is the hotel that the President stays in when he comes to Boston, as it is the easiest hotel for the Secret Service to secure, as it is in a contained block and its the only building on that block.

There have been mixed reviews about Park Plaza - it is a little tired, but some feel it adds to the "old" Boston feel of the area. Rates are generally far better there than many of the newer hotels in downtown - and the location is the best.

I stayed there a few years ago and it was great. It is definitely an OLD hotel...smallish guest rooms and bathrooms. The service was excellent and the location cannot be bettered.

Thanks so much for your input. I haven't checked out rates yet and am sometimes suspicious of "old Boston" meaning very tired hotel... but if it's good for enough for the president, I think I'll give it a try.
Barbara

Barbaa:

I have stayed there many times. Ask for a corner room. There are some very nice suites that if available they just might let you have one! It does not hurt to ask!
JOHN

The Westin is gorgeous! It is located in a good spot, in Copley Plaza. They're rooms are quite large for a big city. They've also got the most comfortable beds in the city.

I think prices must be staying high in Boston. I just tried to bid on a 4 star hotel in Back Bay on Priceline since I've heard from postings that there are some great rates available at the Westin and I was disappointed. First I tried $65, then $75, and then $85, all rejected.

Susan, what dates were you bidding on? Boston hotels get booked solid for mid-April (Marathon weekend) and much of May (college graduations). Rooms for those periods are hard to get at any price!

Susan Apr 6th, 2002 02:35 PM

I was bidding for July 18-21 (a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday). I can't believe how expensive Boston hotels are during the weekend, especially since I'm not aware of a particular event that weekend.

Susan, you're bidding too far out to get a good deal on Priceline now. You'll need to wait until end of May or mid June. There might be conventions in the city, which is why the prices are appearing to be high.

I just got the park plaza for 65 a night on priceline to stay the first week of august!

Barbara:
You might also try the Copley Plaza Hotel. It is also "old", but is one of the Boston landmark hotels and when I have stayed there my room has always been very elegant. They also run a lot of specials {I actually stayed there for First Night in 2001 and even then got the best price of all the hotels I called.] Great location 1
