Boston Opera House questions
We are going to see the Lion King at the Boston Opera House on Saturday afternoon. Where is the best place to park? Can anyone recommend a good informal Italian restaurant nearby for dinner afterwords? We would also enjoy a good steakhouse or burger joint. Thank for any help.

I like to park in the lot under Boston Common. It's a pretty short walk from there to the Opera House.

You can take a look at Teatro on Tremont Street for dinner. It would be convenient, right on your way back to the car if you park in the Common garage. www.teatroboston.com

There's also the Ivy in Downtown Crossing (very short walk), Italian tapas.
Bistro du Midi is nearby. I haven't tried it yet but it gets really good reviews. |
Yes, the Boston Common Garage would be your best bet for parking.
Good "informal" Italian restaurant? Apart from the ones that have been mentioned, there's also Via Matta, and BiNa Osteria (pretty much right next door). I think BiNa has a theatre menu. Re: Steakhouse & burger joint - near the Opera House or other parts of town? |

Will second Teatro as a very good option for Italian in this area. Ivy's pretty good as well, though as wyatt92 says, they tend to be more of a "small plates" type of restaurant.
Via Matta is indeed excellent but strikes me as a little more high end and is a little further walk. Haven't been to BiNa Osteria. The closest steakhouses to this area if memory serves are KO Prime and Ruth's Chris, but both are very expensive high end places. There are also outposts of Fleming's and Smith and Wollensky not far from Via Matta, but I'm not sure they're better choices, and they are just as high-end. Besides some chain pub grub joints, there's also the Intermission Tavern for burgers in this neck of the woods -- it's probably about as good a spot for this type of food as you'll find, and they're open late. Of course Chinatown isn't far away if that strikes your fancy. |
