BEFORE you bid on priceline, you might take a look at www.hotels.com. I was just there and put in your dates of travel and there are several hotels in downtown Boston, going for around $100 a night.

Also the Roadway Inn in Revere, is showing a rate of $47 a night for your dates. It is a walk to the Revere T line from the hotel, so that might work for you as well.

The Freedom Trail starts downtown Boston at the State House (State Capital building) and you follow your map or just follow the painted lines to all the sites.

Stop and do a bit of shopping at Filene's and do the basement, several levels there and you can often get some great deals.

Have a great time, Boston is a beautiful city.

If you're visiting Boston, please don't stay in Revere.

To answer a previous question from Wallace and Gromit, we are flying Northwest Atlanta to Boston with a connection in Detroit. I couldn't pass up the $100 airfare on my Yahoo page, of course with taxes and fees it's more like $133 round trip. I'll definitely report back about our trip. We've never traveled without the use of a car, we are big fans of the Amazing Race, and I think that inspired us to go for it!

FYI - the Roadway is $47 per night for a reason. You would be risking your life to stay there. What subway could you walk to? Wonderland must be a good 1.5 miles away. Suffolk Downs? - if you don't mind walking down a busy highway.

Stay in the Back Bay - you'll be able to find a decent hotel that is convenient and safe and puts you in the middle of most things you'll want to see.

Go to entertainment.com and order the book for the Boston area. That will give you tons of Buy one, Get one coupons including museums, restaurants etc. If you go to Quincy Market, there is a Bostix kiosk where you can get tickets for plays that night at 1/2 price. Blue Man Group is a real hoot! The North End is great for Italian food. "La Familia" on Salem St gives huge portions at a great price. Enjoy your trip.

f64club,
I tried to look up that restaurant. Did you mean La Famiglia Giorgio 112 Salem St?

The reviews at BFT for the 4* Logan hotels (Hyatt and Hilton, though it's mostly the Hyatt that seems to come up in recent bids)make it sound like a very decent alternative, with shuttle to the T or (I think) to downtown. We'll have two nites in Boston late this summer at the front end of a trip and one nite at the end and I was leaning towards bidding on Logan area for that. Would be interested in a local's take on this?

Since you asked: This local thinks it would be ridiculous to choose to stay at the airport insttead of bidding on Back Bay or Downtown. There is a free shuttle bus that goes around the terminals to the nearest subeway station, so it's unlikely that a hotel would offer a separate shuttle to downtown.
