Boston North End Restaurants
 

Anyone have any recommendations for Boston North End or Waterfront restaurants? Haven't been there for a while and would appreciate any suggestions.

I love the Daily Catch - small, ambience is like you're sitting in someone's kitchen at a lake house, but the food is terrific!

Cantina, in the heart of the North End. Best homemade gnocchi we have had anywhere (and my wife and I love gnocchi).

Giacomo's is the best Italian, then go to Mike's Pastry for dessert.

Cantina Italiana. The sign is a neon wine bottle dripping (pouring) wine. It is the type of place I want to eat at when walking around the North End. The food is great and the ambiance only adds to the experience. There are many great places in this area but this place does it the best.

I really like Mamma Maria's (right across from Paul Revere's house, hope I'm getting the name right) it was really wonderful Italian fare in a nice atmosphere.

Have also eaten at Prezza and although the food was great I personally felt it was a bit overpriced.

The main thing I'd stay away from on the waterfront is Anthony's!!! I can't believe how overrated this place is!

We ate at Cantina also.. B for food (We're Italian), but A-plus ((a))on atmosphere and proximity to Mike's Pastry! Whipped Cream Lobster Tails and beautiful Marzipan fruit. Agree about Anthony's on the Waterfront. The bar((D))area is cool in a retro way, but food overpriced and too fussy((n)).

Please avoid the tourist trap of Anthony's and Jimmy's... try if you must the Barking Crab which I hear has the best fried clams anywhere..then again there is always the No Name...with great chowder.

I am partial to Pat's Pushcart only because it was where my husband and I had one of our earliest dates (#3, I think). It was long ago but I remember it being good. Also, you cannot miss Mike's pastry for dessert. Wait til you see what they have. Wow.

Terramia on Salem St is one of my favorites in the North End as well as Massaminos but I can't remember what street their on except that it is away from Hanover St and closer to the Fleet Center. The best antipasto I've ever had was at Massamino's.

We went to Massiminos Cucina Italiana three weeks ago and had a great meal there. It was reasonably priced, too, which isn't the case for many of the restaurants in the North End. It's on Endicott St. right near the Fleet Center.

Sounds like some great restaurants can anyone recommend a good restaurant we will be bringing our 22 month old along with us on this trip? Thanks

Daily Catch and Giacomo's are both great; however, there can be very long lines outside on the weekend for dinner. These are small restaurants -- no reservations accepted -- you have to wait outside on the sidewalk to get in. The last time I had dinner at Giacomo's on a Saturday night, there was a small child who waited and was fine and the restaurant staff was great with the child. Giacomo's is also noisy, so that's something else to keep in mind (although, on the other hand, it won't matter if your child makes noise). So, be prepared to wait, especially on the weekend, if you go to either of these places.

Pomodoro is great. Very small. It's right next to the Daily Catch on Hanover. If you want fancy, Trattoria A Scalinitella is excellent. It's also small and on Hanover, at the beginning on the Boston end. Lots of people have recommended Mike's for dessert, but I prefer Cafe Vittoria. It's a little less crowded. I always get a cafe mocha and pistachio gellato which are wonderful. It seems family run and has a great atmosphere. Mike's is chaotic and more for take-out IMHO.

There are so many to choose from. The last place I went was Taranta on Hanover Street. It was excellent, and they have gift certificates on ebay. I also especially loved Lo Conte's, their chicken saltimbocca was excellent! You can't really go wrong anywhere.
