Boston Milner Hotel
 

Hi everyone... <BR> <BR>Am planning a trip to Boston. I'm booked at the Milner Hotel...the only one with a room under $250 right now! What neighborhood is it in? Is it safe? What is in the area? Is it near a T station? <BR> <BR>Thanks! <BR> <BR>Jenny

We stayed at the Milner once for the same reason. The neighborhood is just fine (Back Bay). It's in walking distance from the Boylston or Arlington T stops. Also in walking distance are Copley Square, the Public Gardens, Newbury Street, Boylston Street, the Prudential Center, etc. The area is one of the safest in Boston. We walked back to the hotel after dinner and cocktails late at night. The hotel is very plain and simple. Our room was "modestly" appointed but spotless. The bathroom fine. Continental breakfast (included in the rate) was surprisingly excellent with a vast array of offerings and really good coffee. The room where it is served is small and has limited seating and there's no lobby to speak of, so you may want to plan on taking a tray to your room before you check out.

Jenny: <BR>The Milner is a very OLD hotel. It is located in the theatre district. Which is within walking distance to the T. The closest T Station is (New England Medical Center - Orange Line). You would have to walk several blocks to catch the Red Line at Park Street and the same if you want to take the Green Line (Arlington). If you are a single woman travelling alone I wouldn't suggest walking around that area at night since it is also quite close or should I say the beginning of the combat zone. The combat zone is an area where you will find alot of street walkers (to put it in nice terms). I don't want to scare you but I wouldn't stay at the Milner, it is not the safest hotel in the world. I don't know if you have plans in any specific area of Boston but if you are willing to cab it or take the T (public trans), there is a hotel in downtown Boston, not that far from the Milner but in a better location called the Omni Parker House. The rooms are usually in the $150 range. <BR>There is also a Holiday Inn not far from that on Cambridge Street. You may hear otherwise, but I've lived in Boston my whole life and I personally would not book a friend at the Milner. I'm sure if that is all you can find in your price range, you should be o.k. Just be very very careful and like I said, don't be walking around at night, take a cab to your destination. Jenny, <BR>If you don't mind traveling on the T just a little, you should check some of the b&b sites for this area. There are a number of places in Brookline which are all in safe areas, and quite a bit less than $250 you mentioned. Anything in Brookline would be safe and an easy T ride into town.

Sorry, but must dispute Colleen's remarks. The Milner is a considerable distance from what used to be known as the "Combat Zone" - and there is hardly a trace left - certainly no street walkers. It's right across the street from the Radisson. The Four Seasons is only two blocks away and the Ritz is just around the corner from that. This is hardly an undesirable neighborhood.
