Boston Marriott Cambridge
 

I am planning to attend a business <BR>conference in Boston Marriott Cambridge <BR>on June 4-7. Are there nice hotels in that <BR>area? Also, Boston has 3 Amtrak stations, <BR>do you know which one is the closest to that <BR>area? <BR> <BR>Thanks, <BR>Igor

Igor, the Boston Marriott in Cambridge is in Kendall Sq. which is right next to MIT, and also just off the Charles River. I don't think there are any other hotels right in that neighborhood, but it's a very nice area none the less. <BR> <BR>Of the three Amtrak stations, North Station would probably be the closest, but Back Bay Station isn't that far, either. They service different train lines, so you really can't choose between them, but if it's a choice between Back Bay and South Station (the same trains stop at both) I'd suggest Back Bay. On the other hand, if you're looking for a T ride to the hotel, both stations on one the T, but neither is on the one that stops at Kendall Sq. so you'd have to change trains either way. A minor correction to the above - Kendall square is on the Red T line, as is SOuth Station (Amtrak). Therefore, if you take a train into South Station you can then take the red line very close to your hotel. <BR> <BR>The area you'll be in, Kendall square, has several hotels. All the one's I'm familiar with are the same - ie. Marriot, Sheraton etc. big boxes. The area is safe, but boring - mainly offices. If you'd like to stay in a bit more interesting place, you should try to stay on Beacon Hill and either walk or take the subway (one or two stops) to your conference. Where to stay depends on your desires/budget. <BR> <BR>Oh, another alternative is to stay in Harvard Square, and take the train. Also two stops, but a longish walk.

The Red Line stops at South Station and in Kendall Sq. a few steps from the Marriott. I have stayed there and found it very convenient for travel in and out of downtown Boston, or the Harvard Square area which is full of restaurants. Also next to the Marriott is a "Legal Sea Foods". A few blocks from the Marriott is the Sonesta and the Galleria Mall, which has a "Cheesecake Factory" with a 50 page menu. <BR> <BR>

There are some more reasonable hotels on or near Beacon hill, but I forget the names of them. THe Four Seasons is in Back Bay and would not be convenient. XV Beacon would be convenient (top of the hill) but is probably too pricy. Check the Time Out Guide to Boston, or the Moon guide.
