Boston-Marathon Route on the T
To everyone that posted with suggestions for this weekends activities in Boston, Thank you!

Couple questions regarding the T. We want to cheer on family at the midpoint of the race (Wellesley College) as well as meeting them at the finish. From the MBTA website, it looks like we should take the Worcester/Framington commuter line and get off on one of the Wellesley stops. Is this correct? Does the train run its regular weekday schedule since its a state holiday? Is there such a thing as 2 day unlimited pass? Is the T the best way to travel? Cabs don't look to promising as all the roads are blocked off.

Again, thanks for the help and any other suggestions would be appreciated.

The T is the hands-down, absolute best way to get around Boston, even when there's no Marathon. But keep in mind that when most locals mention the T they are usually referring to the Subway, even thought the T logo is on all buses, commuter trains, commuter ferries, as well as the subways.

You are correct about the Worcester/Framingham Line and getting off at a Wellesley Stop (wellesley square, I think). You can see maps and schedules at www.mbta.com

I think there is a 3-day unlimited pass, but only for subway, not commuter rail.. But check the above site, they might have the answer there. I have heard that the trains will run the regular monday schedule, but check to make sure. Cabs are not only subject to the traffic jams and detours, but will be prohibitively expensive to get to Wellesley.

The above poster is absolutely right. It will be a regular weekday schedule on the T on Monday. ANd yes, the T is the subway - out to Wellesley is the Commuter rail (around 45 mins from Boston, btw.)

Thanks Charles, but isn't the commuter rail trip less than 45 minutes to wellesley? I've gone inbound from Wellesley to South Station and I remember being pleasantly surprised that the trip was maybe 20-25 minutes tops.

I'm thinking rush hour times... Probably faster non-rush hour. ANd 10 minutes faster to Back Bay..
