Boston Hotels

Hi,
We're taking our college age daughters to
Boston for a week's visit this August and
are looking for advice on where to stay.
With four grown up people in one room it
would be nice to have an affordable suite or
at least a decent room under $200 is that
possible? Any suggestions regarding this
or things not to miss would be appreciated.

Would you consider getting 2 rooms if they came in at a total of $200 per night for both? If so, you could try using Priceline or Hotwire and you may be able to get something decent which would make it more comfortable for everyone and give your daughters their own space.

I agree with Dave -- try Priceline, bid for 2 rooms in the Back Bay or Downtown. If you haven't used it before, read up at www.biddingfortravel.com

Late August is a surprisingly busy time for Boston hotels, perhaps because of parents of arriving students. So it's good that you're planning now.

I am assuming that since you signed your post "A Wisconsin Roadtrip Family", you might be driving to Boston. If that is the case, add an additional $30+ per night for parking. Our son attends school in Boston so we have stayed at a variety of hotels, some using travel rewards and others through AMEX specials.

We have stayed a couple of times at the Eliot on Commonwealth Ave. It offers a "suite" with a K/Q with french doors to a sitting area (sofa, chairs, TV, desk, wet bar). The sofa is a pullout. It is quaint, comfortable and small compared to chain hotels. We have been fortunate to sometimes get an AMEX special of $199 but have paid as high as $249 - both specials included parking and breakfast at Clio. It would probably be best to call the hotel direct 1-900-44ELIOT or 1-617-267-1607 or their website to find out if they are offering any packages during your time frame.

I have never tried Priceline or Hotwire. If you give them a try, let me know how it works out for you.

oops a typo - that should read 1-800-44ELIOT - it's Monday!
