Boston Hotel Question
 

We have reservations at the Millenium Bostonian Hotel at Faneuil Marketplace for the Boston Marathon. Is this waaay too far away or is it a walkable/public transportable possibility? We needed three rooms and the "real close" hotels are pretty outrageous. These rooms can be canceled, but we did get a great rate. <BR><BR>We will be in Boston for 4-5 days, not just for the day of the Marathon! We're all first timers and will be scouring this board for the next several months for ideas. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Well, it's not at the finishline, but it is a lovely hotel in a busy area. You are not far from the Government Center subway stop, and it's a short ride to the Copley Square area where the race finishes. Boston is an easy city to walk, and the subway system is easy to figure out. If the weather is good, you can walk through the Boston Common and the Public Gardens, down Newbury or Boylston Street to the hotel where your carbo-load meals are, etc. I think you'll be fine, and you were smart to book now.

The hotel is located near two T (subway) stops, Government Center and Haymarket. Probably a 5 minute walk to either stop. Definitely not too far away from things.<BR><BR>Enjoy!

The Bostonian will be a great choice for you. Just a couple of subway stops from the Marathon finish line, AND in a great area for tourists, whatever their interests, from historic sites to nightclubbing! AND it will be less crazy than the Copley Square area that weekend! <BR><BR>Walking disance is a bit over a mile, but definitely under 1.5 miles, and a very pretty walk thru Public Garden and Common, as stated above.

Keep this hotel - very nice hotel in great location for the 4-5 days. The finish line is a hike away, but certainly walkable. Finish line is very crowded - unless you are seeing someone specific run, you might consider another vantage point.

Well, it looks like it is a keeper then. I'm sure everyone knows the second guessing that some travelers/planners/buyers possess and I am one of that bunch! Certainly when other people depend on your decisions, you want to make good ones. Thanks for all your input. Since we do have someone we will be watching for, we will be among the masses at the finish line. I figure if he can run for 26 miles, I can fight the crowds for 3 hours 30 minutes!....OK, so he isn't world class, but I will be there to cheer him onward. Thanks again...now the planning for air - food - bars - history sites, etc! We will hope for good weather!

As far as weather - I can give you one guarantee. If you, as spectator, like the weather, he will think, as a runner, that it is too hot.
