July '08 my husband and I are ending our cruise in Boston. I have no idea where the ship docks. We will need a hotel for 1 night. Any suggestions for a hotel near the ship docks and close to a subway that could get us to the airport?

I have read recommendations on this board for the Harborside Inn would this meet our needs? Their current price of approx. $200 is in my price range. Thanks for any suggestions.

I just finished a stay at the Harbourside a couple of weeks ago and loved it there.

The T stop (blue line) to the airport stops IN FRONT of the hotel.

The hotel is a rennovated old wharehouse and is across the street from Fanuiel Hall. I would highly recommend it for a nights stay, and you can walk across the street for dinner.

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I love the idea that the Blue line is right there! We travel light so I do not expect much trouble getting to the airport on the T.

The Harborside Inn is certainly in a good location (particularly if you are in Boston for just a night...you could pop over to the North End for a nice Italian dinner and wander around Quincy Market and/or the waterfront with very little effort) and would seem like a solid choice. You might check the Trip Advisor reviews and candid photos for more information on the hotel. The easiest way to get there from the cruise terminal (assuming it's Black Falcon Pier), would be to take a cab. You can take public transportation but it would require multiple transfers and just doesn't seem worth it. If you really don't want to take a taxi, I'd take the Silver Line to South Station and then, assuming I had easy to handle luggage, I would walk the approximately 1/4 mile to the hotel. It would be easier than making 2-3 transfers on the subway.

The cruise terminal is on the Silver Line (SL2 branch). If you wanted to stay close to the terminal, the Seaport Hotel would be a good, though pricey and less centrally located, choice. To get to the airport from the Seaport Hotel, you'd take the Silver Line. But in your shoes, I'd stay at the Harborside Inn and maximize my little time in Boston. I wouldn't dawdle about reservations though. A $200/night hotel will surely book up and July is a busy time for tourists. Hope you have a nice trip!

Thanks for your suggestion. I did look into the Seaport Hotel. Great reviews but over $400 for the night I need. I agree it seems a little isolated. I have gone and booked the Harborside Inn. I will be in Boston the 4th of July weekend and figured I better lock in a hotel soon.

I'm going to be back at the hotel for a couple of nights next week, so will post my stay.

The last time I got an indside room overlooking the lobby and I loved that it was very quiet at night. The bed was also very comfortable.

In the lobby there's coffee, tea and hot chocolate and internet access. There's also a deli in the hotel open 24/7 which I also found convenient.

The ship most likely docks at Black Falcon Pier, located in the Seaport District in South Boston.

Silver Line bus runs right by the port, but many cruise lines also have shuttle service.

If you do take the silver line bus, you can connect to a different Silver LIne route that will take you to the airport via tunnel. You no longer need to take the Blue Line to get to the airport (unless your hotel is in front of it, of course!)

hotels on the Silver line I can think of are the new one at the new Convention Center (a Westin, I believe) and the Seaport Hotel.

Having said that, you could (eventually) get to just about any Boston hotel via the bus/subway. the hardest requirement to fill will be the $200 rate. Rooms are unfortunately expensive in Boston.
