Boston hotel choice dilemma
 

We will be the first time visiting Boston during Labor day weekend.

I have reserved the John Jeffries House first with $150 - 170 price range, then got a deal on Lenox hotel for additional 30 dollars. Now I cannot decide which to choose. We're casual and enjoy more relax and quiet environment.

Would anyone make some recommendation as for comfortable level, location, and price?

While they are both fine options, I think it is personal which you would prefer depending on what is important to you in a hotel room -

The John effries House I have not been in for a few years since a relative stayed there - it was immaculate - a good price - but more B&B / Inne feeling -

Lenox has more 'luxury' regarding linens, towels, decor, and naturally, more amenities as a boutique hotel, marble baths, etc -

so for 30 a night, say you are staying 3 nights, you save $ 100 - not knowing your budget - that would give you either a dinner out - or that isn't an issue and you would enjoy the extras available at the Lenox -
make a quick comparison on their web sites - usually most hotels have several photos of various rooms, list hotel amenities, etc

Lenox is an excellent location , imo - one I'd prefer over JJ House. - again, just personal opinion

you can put "John Jeffries House" into the search this forum bar on top of the page and find some posts that discuss it - and do the same for Lenox and that might also help you

I agree that the location of the Lenox is better for most tourists.

The Jeffries is extremely handy to the Charles Street station on the subway's Red Line, and is at the end of Charles Street that is farthest from Boston Common and the Public Garden.

The Lenox, on the other hand, is in the heart of the Back Bay, in Copley Square.

I wouldn't really consider the Lenox to be in the middle of a "touristy" place. Boston is a very small city, so it's not like you'd be picking Times Square or anything like that.

I'm a huge fan of The Lenox hotel, and stayed there again just a few weeks ago. I think it's hard to find more comfortable rooms ( I've also stayed at The Marriott, The Westin, The Hilton, The Sheraton) and they are incredibly quiet, too. Staff is very helpful, and the location is ideal for shopping, sightseeing, and good restaurants. If you go, skip the restaurant at the hotel, and go to Turner Fisheries ( which is on the ground floor of the Westin) or Abe and Louies or Atlantic Fish, all of which are within a block or two of the hotel.

The comments about the location of the Lenox said that it was convenient, not "in the middle of a touristy place." I think you'll find the ratio of tourists to locals to be about the same on Charles Street as on Boylston Street.
