Boston/Holyoke/Coast in 4 days - advice needed
 

It's a strange and last minute trip. We (me, my husband and our 8 year old) are driving up to Holyoke on Tuesday to explore the house and town my husband's grandfather grew up in and meet some second cousins. We plan to spend several hours there and then head to Boston to see our niece and play tourist. We'd also like to see the coast. I recall going to a town called Rockport when my brother lived in Boston and my husband has interest in Salem but I am open to suggestions.

I'd specifically like advice on where to stay in Boston (part of town or specific hotel - location is prime concern, then quality of hotel) or on our coastal jaunt, what kid friendly sites you recommend, and restaurants you love.
