Boston: Four Season vs. Fairmont Copley Plaza
 

I'll be in Boston for a weekend in October. I have the option of a Deluxe Double at the Four Seasons for 375.00 per night and a Signature Room at the Fairmont Copley Plaza for $305.00. The only reason I'm considering the Fairmont is location--I prefer it and the hotel is walkiing distance to the Back Bay Station (I'm taking Amtrak.) Am I being foolish or will the CP be acceptable? Thanks.

Check to see if the Fairmont renovation is completed.

Depends on what you consider "acceptable;" I'm having trouble psyching out the priorities of someone who's willing to spend over $300 for a hotel room but will make walking distance to the train a major choice factor.

anonymous, I wasn't asking you to psych out anything... I was simply trying to get some feedback on the Copley Plaza. No, money is not the issue. Comfort and convenience is. I prefer the LOCATION of the CP to the FS and thought it was a great luxury to be able to hop off the train and BE THERE. That said, I had heard that the CP had gone downhill over the last couple of years. I was hoping for feedback from someone who had stayed there. (I already know what the FS is like.) I don't want to give up a certain degree of luxury and surface for the sake of a cab ride...

My wife and I have stayed at the Fairmont three times in the last three years largely becuase my wife has had medical meetings there with the Harvard Medical School. We haven't stayed at the Four Seasons in Boston.

The Fairmont is close to the T station, but I think the Westin is a better deal with more consistent service. We've been there three times, too.


The Fairmont has lovely public rooms. The concierge is pretty good. The hotel rooms are not. The service is often indifferent. We've paid a lot for rooms there and done the Presidents Club and all that. Our last stay was in October 2003.

We're trying other hotels - the Nine Zero, a boutique on Tremont - later this month - but it is not so close to the T.

Tell us later which hotel you choose and whether or not you liked it.

Actually, assuming that you are not 100 years old and horribly out of shape and carrying a trunk, you could easily walk to the Four Seasons from the train station.

Actually Nine Zero is directly accross from the T -- Park Street Station.

Definitely Four Seasons. Copley Plaza is a very old hotel and the rooms are tiny.

Thank you all for your feedback. I am definitely leaning toward The Four Seasons... Has anyone stayed at the Copley Plaza since their renovation? Or are all of these reviews pre-renovation? Thanks again...
