Boston for shopping
 

Coming to Boston in December for a weekend. Staying @ Radisson, Stuart St. Any good? Also how easy is it to get public transport to Wrentham Premium Outlets? Been to Boston once before but only passing on way to Cape Cod so any advice welcome. Thanks

You can get a train to Wrentham for about $7.00 round trip. You would then need a cab to get to the outlets. <BR>Don't forget Filene's basement for good buys. <BR>Have fun

Since I live in Boston and don't need to stay in any of the hotels, I can't comment on whether it's "good" or not, but I can tell you that it is in a good location. If you want to go to Wrentham, I'd suggest renting a car for the day. Or, you could do as the above poster mentioned and take the train. I personally like the shopping in Boston better than Wrentham (I'm not a huge outlet fan). Filene's Basement is great, as is the shopping in the Back Bay (Copley Sq, Newbury st. etc). Hope you have fun and find some bargains!

If you rent a car, you might as well consider also driving the hr. up to Kittery, Maine (just over the short border with NH), one of the first discount-store areas in the country. <BR> <BR>The train to the south toward Wrentham is meant for commuters, thus weekend schedules can be quite sporadic -- try to get a schedule on-line (www.mbta.com) before you make your plans, because it might not be a feasible trip if you want to do anything else at all in Boston. As you will see, it's a complicated process that still doesn't get you all that close to the Outlets. <BR> <BR>I'm not a fan of Filene's Basement since it changed from being the discount part of Filene's and became just another discount chain like Hit'n'Miss, etc. <BR>I'm not sure I'd consider shopping for discount prices a top attraction for the Boston area, but you can find a lot of representative stores at Cambridgeside, near the Lechmere "T" (subway) stop -- not discount but decent shopping. Ditto Chestnut Hill on the "T" Green Line. <BR> <BR>Newbury Street is very upscale but interesting. Harvard Sq. has some charming shops, but you have to wander a bit on Mt. Auburn and Mass. Ave. (toward Central Sq.). <BR> <BR>Good luck.

Hi..this is the shopping maven.. The concierge at the hotel (be sure to see the play "I Love You..Your Perfect, Now Change"..it's attached to the hotel..).... will be happy to fill you in.. Wrentham (30 minutes from my home) has just opened up the newest of the stores for the holiday.. The difference between Wrentham and Kittery is that there is sales tax on clothes in Kittery.. Kittery is funky, the first outlet area in this part of the country..stores you won't find in Wrentham like Ross-Simons, Royal Doulton..Totes and others.. but in Wrentham you will find a Saks and more designer shops.. I am always suspect of these stores that claim they are outlets...how many seconds can there be..If you go to Kittery which will be about 1 1/2 hours from downtown Boston be sure to eat at the Weathervane for great seafood.. In Kittery the shops are in tiny mini malls and we go in and out of the ones we want easily.. In Wrentham you go up and down the streets looking and shopping wherever picks your fancy..oh yes, there is a Bombay in Wrentham..some decent prices.. IF you go to Wrentham there is a great restaurant for lunch..Luciano's.. Now, depending on which weekend your coming.. the first weekend in December is Prelude in Kennebunkport..which is a blast..all the shops are open serving coffee and cookies..lots of entertainment..pancake breakfasts, lobster lunches...and then on the way back to Boston you can stop into Kittery shopping where it will be much less crowded..

Just noticed your from the UK..we have a Crate and Barrel in Boston..a Marshall (discount shop) on Boylston Street that has clothes and home accessories..and with the exchange rate you'll have to buy luggage...also available at Marshall's to carry everything home... Thanks for all the advice. Arriving 1st weekend in December for 3 days so hoping to see quite a lot...probably spend a lot too!
