Boston for 3 days - Nov 28-30
 

A group of four adults are going to Boston for the weekend. We are hoping to take in some Christmas displays and do some "wintery" activiites. Is there outdoor skating on a rink anywhere? How about a not-to-miss market? Many thanks!

There is one on the Boston Common(the Frog pond) but not sure if it's opened yet. I know at City Hall, the Christmas display is on.

Ice Skating on the Frog Pond

During the winter, the Frog Pond features outdoor ice skating as well as concessions, skate rentals, rest rooms, and a warming area. 2003/2004 Hours of Operation:

Sunday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
(except Monday when the rink closes at 5 p.m.)


Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.


Closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day


Open Christmas Eve 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.


New Year?s Eve 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.


New Year's Day 12 noon to 5 p.m.
Fees are as follows:

Admission
Free for ages 13 and under
$3 for ages 14 and over


Skate rentals
$5 for children 13 and under
$7 for 14 and over


Lockers are available for one dollar tokens
(available from the cashier)


Individual season passes are available for $100


Family passes are $150


Lunchtime pass good Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (holidays excluded), is available for $60

Check out the Boston Ballet's Nutcracker. Its a Christmas tradition in Boston and they've lost their lease at the Wang Center after this year. The ballet has beautiful sets that were created specifically for the large stage at the Wang. Even if the tradition continues at another venue it will never be the same.

Another wonderful thing to do is have tea at the Ritz Carlton on Arlington. Its such a treat to come in from a cold day of shopping on Newbury St and to be pampered with lovely scones and delicious tea.

Charles St is great for antique shops. The North End has great Italian food and shops.

The Christmas lights should be up on the Common by then. I think the tree lighting at the Pru will be in early Dec. Check out boston.com for more info as the dates get closer.

Usually very nice decorations at Fanueil Hall/Quincy Market area. Do not know if you are flying or driving - since that is Thanksgiving weekend traffic into/out of city will be tough on Sunday. Article in Boston Globe today about how security staffing at airport will make lines longer.

If you really want wintery activities I will pray for snow for you if you promise to take it with you when you leave.

You may take any snow you encounter along with the cold air back to Bermuda with you as a holiday gift - I will not miss it.
