Boston for 12 year old birthday?
My niece is coming to stay with us in Charlestown this weekend to celebrate her 12th b'day (her parents have a wedding to attend).
She lives on the North Shore so she has been on duck boats, to the aquarium, science museum, Freedom Trail, Constitution for school field trips or with her parents. I don't have kids - so looking for some fun, budget friendly late afternoon/evening activities & dinner suggestions. She is an easy-going, happy-go-lucky kid. She is already doing a bowling party Friday night with her friends before her arrival. I was thinking: Take the MBTA boat from Charlestown over to Long Wharf and see if there are any street performers in faneuil hall. Swan boats (or is she too old?) To see the Marathon Memorial (or is she too young?) After dinner we can walk to the North End for pastry. Thanks in advance! |
Give her some choices and ask her which she would like to do.

Harvard Square for shopping and hanging out with lunch at Mr Bartley 's Burgers.
Would she like the Harvard Natural History Museums? Glass flowers, minerals, weird stuffed animals. |
Good idea re: the Harvard museums. Especially the glass flowers and the comparative zoology (stuffed animals) would be lots of fun for some 12's, though excruciating for others. The sort-of new, and definitely popular, Tasty Burger in Harvard Sq might be a winning meal idea.
Some kids enjoy a trip to George's Island or some of the other Boston Harbor islands. This is easily combined with a meal in either the North End or Quincy Market, or a bite from a food truck on the Rose Kennedy Greenway. |
Thanks all! Fingers crossed that the rain stops!
