Boston + beach trip in late June

I am planning a trip for my husbands birthday in late June. We will be staying in Boston for two nights, catching a baseball game and touring the city. I would also like to get to a beach for a couple days...either cape cod, martha's vineyard, etc. Does anyone have any recommendations of where to go and any hotel suggestions? We are in our mid-30s and enjoy places that have great restaurants, outdoor activities, spas and nice hotels. Our extent of northeast travel has been pretty limited. I have been investigating online but the info is a little overwhelming...I am open to all ideas and suggestions!

Depends on your budget, amount of time you have for the beach. First, "late June" - Boston is hosting a huge 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 over July 4th this year - in addition to the usual Boston July 4th celebrations. Hotels will be expensive and limited.

Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket might meet your preferences - but if you only have a couple of days, you are going to spend about half of it getting to and from. You might consider Rockport (north of Boston) as it has some nice little inns - not sure about the spa part as there really are not the larger hotels that support this kind of thing.

Hope this helps narrow it down a bit - so process this info and then get back to us.

Depending on your budget ...

For lovely accommodations in an area with easy access to all sorts of wonderful beaches and great dining options, have a look at the Chatham Bars Inn and the Wequassett Resort & Golf Club both on Cape Cod.

Chatham Bars has spa facilities, I don't believe Wequassett does. However, both resorts are well worth your consideration if they're within your budget.

For the beach part, I'd stick with either Cape Cod or the north Shore (as gail mentioned). MV or Nantucket takes time to get to, and it's not worth it if you only have 2-3 days to spare. My sis-in-law likes Crane Beach in the N shore.

You can also consider Provincetown which is reachable from Boston by high speed ferry.

The Crowne Point Inn is very nice and has a spa--there are many nice places to stay in P-town.

The high speed passenger ferry out of Boston to Provincetown is a great option. It's pricey, but it's convenient. You won't need a car while in Provincetown either.
