Boston Back Bay

We arrive in Boston on sat and my 16 yr old daughter keeps asking me how much snow will she see!! Her weather app shows snow on Tues in Boston--true???
What's a good museum to take 2 girls to? They agreed to go to one only and they said no gardens.
And what mall should I take them to? We are staying in back bay and will have T passes.
Thanks!
Cheryl

Your daughter is messing with you. Predicting 70 degrees on Christmas Day.

We were there in Back Bay just last week and thoroughly enjoyed the Gardner museum.

The recommendation for Island Creek Oyster Bar from
Inakauaidavidababy was quite nice and the best meal we had in our limited time there.

Actually snow is predicted for next Tuesday, but only flurries to less than an inch.

Temps will be in the 30's and 40's in that week.

The best art museum is the Museum of Fine Arts. The best winter museum is the Gardner because it has an indoor garden that is very pleasant when the weather is lousy. They are only a couple of blocks apart.

The best high end/window shopping in the city is on Newbury St and Boylston Street in the Back Bay and in Copley Place on Huntington Avenue nearby -- everything from Cartier to the standard mall stores. The more interesting-individual-local-trendy shops on Newbury tend to be toward the Mass Ave end.

For young people, Harvard Square in Cambridge and Davis Square in Somerville are both on the Red Line. You should also walk around Beacon Hill, across the Public Garden from the Back Bay. It is unique and beautifully decorated for Christmas now, particularly Mt Vernon, Chestnut and Cedar Streets. Many shops on Charles Street.

In addition to the established department stores, there is an H&M and a Nordstrom's Rack in Back Bay, a Uniqlo at Quincy Market, and Primark (inexpensive) at Downtown Crossing.

There is outlet shopping at Assembly Row in Somerville, an easy short ride to its own stop on the Orange Line. http://www.assemblyrow.com/

I'd recommend the Museum of Fine Arts or the Gardner. Have your daughter read something about a painting that interests her, and then find it in the museum. Here's an example: http://www.mfa.org/collections/objec...ley-boit-31782

I second the advice to walk around Beacon Hill and look at the unique shops on Charles Street.

Snow prediction for Tuesday is now up to 3-5 inches, but not all that cold.

Beautiful on the Common, in the Public Garden, in the Commonwealth Avenue Mall, and on Beacon Hill but likely to be slushy underfoot.

Remember that it will be dark by 4:30, though all the better to see the lights!

Second on thr MFA and Gardiner museums. We had a lovely lunch ar MFA then walked to Gardiner. All within close proximity of T stop. As to malls downtown, not sure what youre looking for. Start with Copley Place mall list of stores. Newberry St. Shops is also within walking distance. I know my girls like the boutiques there.

Looks like it will be a sloppy wintry mix of snow rain ice with little accumulation. Hope you are enjoying your visit.
