boston b&b recommendations
 

will be travelling to boston in september and would prefer to stay in a b&b instead of a hotel. female travelling alone. i would like a clean room with a private bathroom and a tv (mini fridge would be a bonus). i will be driving in from maine, spending a few nights in boston then heading south to the cape. i would like a place i could park my car and take public transport to the sights but i'd also like to be able to walk to a pub or restaurant in the evening and feel safe walking around. i would like to pay $100 or less. does anyone have experience with a b&b that would meet my needs? from what i've been reading, it sound like beacon hill may be a good area to look at. is that correct? thanks very much. (first trip to boston.)

If there's a wrench in your plans, it's your requirement for parking. That can be hard to find at a B&B in the Boston area.

My favorite B&B-type place near your price range is the Newbury Guest House, in the heart of the Back Bay right on Newbury St. They do have limited off-street parking, as I recall. All rooms have private baths and TVs, and they offer free breakfast as well. Room décor is shabby chic, but they're clean and comfy, and the staff are very sweet. A tiny B&B not far away (behind Berklee College, just off of Mass Ave.) is the Oasis Guest House-- most rooms have shared bath, however.

I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions, but frankly I'd choose the Newbury Guest House. I loved it!

There are quite a few B&B's in Brookline near Coolidge Corner (near where I used to live). It is a short T ride on the Green line to downtown. I believe most or all of them have parking, and that area is extremely safe with plenty of restaurants and shops around.

I have stayed at the Bertram Inn in Brookline and as a female traveler going solo it was a pleasure. Very clean, good food and great service. I will be going back again this Sunday for 3 nights on business. Parking is also included. The cost is around $150, but I find them to be somewhat negotiable. Worth the extra money.

Look at B&B Agency of Boston on their web site, boston-bnbagency.com They have apartments and B&B.
I stayed in one on Beacon St. just a few blocks from Cheers Bar it was a great location. Great delis (De lucas)just round the corner on Charles St.

I am just back from Boston and found the Longwood Inn here from yk. It is very nice, convenient to the "T", very safe, and has both private bath and shared (although I never had to share mine). It has an air conditioner in each room so you can make it as cool as you wish. It is an old mansion. The staff is very nice. You can leave your things in the refrigerator in the kitchen with your name on it and no one bothers them. Walk two blocks one way and you are in downtown Brookline and two blocks the other way and you are at the "T" stop. A number of hospitals and medical buildings are nearby. Parking is behind the house. I rode in after midnight several nights and never felt afraid. I paid $75 for shared bath and I think it was $100 for private.

Oops, forgot to say that it is an inn and not a B&B. There are places in downtown Brookline or you can bring your own things and cook them there or just go on into the city.
