Reasonable, safe areas to stay in Boston? Was thinking about North End. Will be there in July.....Thanks.

What is reasonable to you???

I stayed in the Back Bay once and near the New England Aquarium once and liked both areas.

Just as long as the hotel is not "Boston hyphen somewhere-else", most area hotels are in "reasonable, safe areas to stay". If you're considering an AirBnB or such, do post the exact address, mostly for comments about proximity to public transportation and sights, and any possible safety issues.

I don't know about the North End, but a good central hotel is the Boston Park Plaza

Their service is very good, and sometimes it's best to contact them directly for reservations.

We also have liked the Marriott Courtyard in Brookline, for a nice neighborhood and easy transport.

We enjoyed the Loews Boston a couple of years ago, but I thought it was a bit pricy--I think hotels in Boston generally are.

You must define "reasonable" to get useful answers here.

Realistically, pretty much any hotel in Boston (save the couple down by the Boston Medical Center) will be reasonably convenient and reasonably safe. I suspect that this will come down more to price than anything, so it would be super helpful if you offered your price range to get specific ideas.

FWIW, I'm not a big fan of the North End and would prefer to stay nearer the Common or in Back Bay, but that is just my preference.

Second warning about Boston-Waltham/Burlington/Dedham, etc. Distances and commutes in Boston are deceiving. Eight miles can take an hour to commute.

The true North End does not have hotels - it has little apartments and shops/restaurants. Closest is Faneuil Hall area - multiple brand new and expensive hotels. Look at areas labeled this or Downtown, Boston Common, Back Bay, Copley for the most convenient. But still, expensive. Boston is consistently in top 3 most expensive hotel cities in US.

I often recommend Park Plaza. Perfect location. There are the older/smaller rooms and the Tower which is more modern and more expensive. For a mainstream hotel in good location, they often have lowest rates.

People often post here they just want a clean comfortable bed in safe and convenient location in Boston - the price of real estate is so high in Boston that this does not exist. Feel free to post back with specific hotels you are considering.

Reasonable =less than $200/night. Also, I forgot to add we will have a car so will need parking available. I realize that will not be cheap! Thanks all.

In July, for example, the youth hostel has a bunk bed in a multi-person dorm for U$65/night.
Their private double room is U$220 + tax.

TA posters on the Boston forum are pretty good at finding any deals that may exist.

That isn't really reasonable for a hotel in Boston proper. And parking will be an extra $30+ per day.

Your options (to my mind):
1) Try Airbnb, including looking at things in Somerville and Cambridge that are near the Red Line.
2) Maybe consider some of the better located "suburban" hotels, like in Somerville (e.g. the La Quinta at Assembly Square), where you get free/cheaper parking and aren't that far from a T stop.

Given your price and need for parking, it really seems you'd be better off researching suburban hotels that are near T lines. One poster warned you off Dedham, etc., but I don't see any other choice.

But if you find a centrally located hotel in Boston for $200 and reasonable parking fees, a lot of us would like to know about it.

So true! Scratch the Loews, I wish it could be had for under $200. Boston hotel prices are just high.

Chandler Inn is @ $250 and so is a single room at the Hostel.
Check availability out at The Inn on Crystal Cove. Nice location in the heat of July...rooms are around $175 and will be sold out for the whole month shortly...short drive to a T station or there's a bus. Check reviews on tripadvisor.com or booking.com, note they have a strict 14 day cancellation policy. Winthrop Beach Inn & Winthrop Beach Hotel might also have availability around $175-$200.
