Boston Anniversary - One Night Away

Hi. I'm looking to take my lovely bride away for our one year anniversary. I'm looking for a place that we can spend the night in Boston after seeing the BSO. I'm looking to spend around $250 (I'm just a poor school teacher) for the hotel (so the Ritz and the Four Seasons are out). Does anyone have any suggestions for a place that's romantic and luxury (without being froo-froo) that falls into this price range?

Try one of the Marriott's: Copley or Longwharf. Both fun weekend rates and specials. Also, Cambridge has some better hotel rates than downtown. Good Luck!

The Marriotts are nice but they are just a Marriott - nothing that special. How about the Elliott Suites? or The Bostonian - the hotel that overlooks Quincy Market? We stayed there for our 10th anniversary and it was wonderful. Also have stayed at the Colonade - more reasonably priced and very nice - excellent location for an evening at the BSO. Also have had several out of town visitors who love the Lenox - these are people who travel extensively.

Or check out boston.com and click on the travel section. There is an article there on unique B&Bs in Boston - like a cabin cruiser in Boston harbor or a converted firehouse in Cambridge.

Why not check out biddingfortravel.com and see what people are getting in Boston for 4-star hotels? You wouldn't have a specific choice, but as it sounds like you're open about that anyway, why not stretch your hotel budget a bit while assuring somewhere nice? Then spend the extra on a really nice dinner!

If you're going on a weekend, Le Meridien has a $159/night weekend rate. They also have a "package" prix fixe dinner at Julien with limo transportation to and from symphony hall (tickets not included). We did this once and loved it! Details are at their website. The hotel is fabulous. (Piano bar is very romantic, too.)

PS We've stayed at Le Meridien for as low as $105/night with Hotwire.

Thanks, these are all really good ideas. I had looked into Le Meridian. They had some interesting packages. We travel quite often, but since we're moving into our new home, a longer trip really isn't possible.

I suggest the Fairmont Copley Place Hotel. The location in Back Bay is great, and the hotel is beautiful, especially the public areas.

Although its considered a 3 star, you might consider one of the executive rooms at the Hilton in Back Bay. I stayed there last weekend (rate is $159), and the corner rooms are amazing on the upper floors, absolutely spectacular views. You'd also be very close to the BSO and could walk there. The showers are absolutely amazing -- absolutely enormous, with 4 shower heads and built for 2.

I had room 2107, which had a view of Back Bay, Cambridge, Charles River, and the Christian Science Monitor (the corners are lopped off in the rooms, which allow for the spectacular views.

Otherwise, you might also consider staying at the Westin in Copley Square -- all the rooms have the heavenly beds.

Check Hotwire for your date. You really can't go wrong with a 4 star or above.

My wife and I got engaged in Boston 3 years ago and we stayed in a quaint little town about 20 minutes north called Marblehead. We stayed at the Marblehead Inn which is an elegant, victorian style bed and breakfast. Their weekend rates are around $200.

I don't know if this will work for your plans but just a suggestion. You can find bed and breakfast at marbleheadinn.com. Good luck and Happy Anniversary!
