Boston Activities-Marathon Wkend
My extended family will be in Boston April 15-18 for the Boston Marathon. Most of us have been to Boston before, separately, and did the majors: Ol' Ironsides, Freedom Trail, Quincy Market,Fanueil Hall, Duck/Harbor Tour, Cambridge/Harvard. Any suggestions on alternative activities? Ie) San Fran has a Chinatown walking/restaurant tour? Are there special events set up around the marathon/Patriots Day? Will the Red Sox sell out that weekend? Any suggestions on activities and restaurants would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. b

Hi- I will be in Boston that weekend as well- and being a baseball fan, I looked into a Red Sox game. There is a game on Sunday (probably Saturday too), and there are tickets available.
|
Red Sox tickets are most definately already sold out for marathon day. Why not go down to Boylston St. to watch the marathon? A lot of communities have Patriot's Day parades too...
|
Concord always has a revolutionary war re-enactment sometime around Patriots day. Not sure if its actually on the weekend though. Lots of folks dressed up as Minutemen, and lots of musket firing.

According to today's issue of the Lexington MInuteman Newspaper, we are expecting between 100,000 and 200,000 visitors to arrive on our hallowed doorstep April 14-17 when 2000 participants will take part in what some are saying will be the largest Revolutionary battle re-enactment ever staged. Should be quite something to see - a mob scene to be sure, but as the 225th anniversary of the "shot heard round the world" - might well be worth taking in. Take a look at www.2000lexington.com for details.

Thanks for the tips. We will be watching the marathon - Dads running. Looking more for stuff on Saturday and Sunday thats a little out of the ordinary. How far = How long of drive is it to the reenactment? We're staying in the Copley Square and Cambridge areas. b

From the Copley Sq. area to Lexington, take the Mass Pike to Rt. 128. North to Rt. 2A, then into town. On a normal day without traffic, maybe half an hour. That weekend...start early! It's a fabulous thing to do, and certainly unique to this area. I'm thinking of going up there myself.

If you're interested in something different and fun, the New England Folk Festival Association's yearly festival will take place on April 14 - 16 in Natick, a western suburb of Boston, at the Natick High School. It's a weekend chock full of great activities - lots of participatory dancing (contra dancing, square dancing, swing, cajun, English Country, and more - with teaching provided for a lot of them), dance performances (Morris dancers, folk dancers, etc.), musical performances, storytelling, workshops, folk bazaar, craft fair, great ethnic food- you can come for a short time, or the whole weekend! There is free parking nearby with a free shuttle bus to the festival, also a train goes from Boston to Natick, and the shuttle bus goes by the train station. People come from all over the country to go to this festival- I've gone every year for 10 years, and wouldn't miss it. Check out their web site at www.neffa.org/~neffa for more info.

I was just looking for tickets to the Red Sox game that weekend myself. They Have a Game Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. The Red Sox always have a game on Marathon Monday at 11am. You can still get tickets to that game if you buy them soon. YOu can get them by going to www.redsox.com <BR>It is real easy to get Red Sox tickets that way. If you have any questions about the Red Sox You can send me an email since I am a huge Red Sox fan and go to as many games as I can during the summer.
