My best firend and I are visiting Boston for the first time for 2 nights. We are staying at the Courtyard Marriot Copley Dec 1 thru Dec3.
Any ideas on whatto do and also is the musical Menopause worth seein? i want to check it out on Sunday. We are 30 and 32 years of age. So far we want to eat at Mantras (not sure how far from hotel) and do the Duck tour. Thanks

It will be cold.
Mantra is about a 25 minute walk from
Copley, about a 5 minute subway ride.
Across from Mantra is Ivy, another hip
bar-restaurant, a little less expensive than Mantra.

Museums: my favorite is the Isabella Steward Gardner and the MFA, but the new Institute Contemporary Art won't be open until a week later.

A walk through Boston Common, Public Garden, down Charles St, Newbury St, Boylston, Comm Ave - criss crossing back and forth inbetween them - lots of stores, galleries, etc.

Check out thefreedomtrail.org and see if any of those sites interest you , you can grab a map and walk them yourself w/out a tour if you like.

Boston Public Library a gorgeous building, as is the State House, and a view from the Prudential Skywalk Observatory is always pretty, day or night - if it's clear

Definitely go the the North End , maybe one night for dinner, go early to walk around a bit, and stroll afterwards and have dessert/coffee at one of the pastry shops

There are lots of threads on here about things to do in Boston if you put "boston' into the search bar, many should come up.

When you get here, grab the local papers in the stands, the gallery sheets, etc - sometimes there are gallery exhibit opening, public invited, on Newbury and surrounding area and they can be fun to walk through at night stopping for drinks, coffee along the way.

Make your dinner rezzies ahead of time if you know where you want to go - maybe your choices are on opentable.com and you can save yourself some phone calling.

I just plugged "boston" into the search bar to see if one post popped out at me to copy and direct you to, but there are soooo many- if you scroll down them, you will see the titles range from theater ideas, to museums, touring options, important sites, even where is the best hot dog, north end restaurant, seafood restaurant, etc .....

I think if you hit on some of those, you might get some good ideas too - but if you have any particular interests (architecture, nightlife, late night restaurants, etc post back !)

Four of us 50-somethings saw Menopause the Musical last year. It was a big hit with us. Most of the audience seemed to be females in our age group. I also enjoyed the artwork hanging in the theater lobby. It reminded me of a big conciousness raising group. The actresses represent very different women with one thing in common - menopause. The songs are very funny. It's a chance to laugh at ourselves.
I second the recommendation to wander around the North End. You can also check out what kind of discounted last minute tickets you can get for other shows. Have a dim sum lunch in Chinatown on Saturday?

I would say the MFA if you love fashion because the main event this month are mannequins and videos showing the fashions of Paris's(and Belguim) leading designers from Chanel(the only wearable looking duds to Margiela.

The Gardner is a visit for a day to see EVERYTHING!
