"Boston proper at 7pm, after the worst of rush hour."

Last time I drove in "Boston proper" at that hour, it took me over an hour to get a couple of miles on the expressway.

"None of the Boston residents I know take the T to the airport. I think I did it once, 20+ years ago."

You must know the wrong people.

You must know the wrong people.

I doubt that. The T is simply too inconvenient for the airport. And with 4 people, it won't save but a dollar or two per person over an Uber.

It all depends on where you live in Boston. from downtown it makes sense to take a cab. It's not expensive. But if you live in other parts of Boston, near a T stop, it makes sense to take the subway to save 30-40 dollars.

An UberX probably wouldn't come to $40 from anywhere in Boston proper. And anywhere that far away would take forever to get to the airport - going from Brighton to the airport would likely take over an hour door to door and require you to make two changes.

About the only place where the price/time ratio would even out to my mind would be some parts of Dorchester if you are close to the Red Line.

And it bears repeating that the OP is traveling with three other people, so you are talking $11 for the T fare (assuming they don't have a CharlieCard).

I was commenting on the "no one in Boston takes the T to the airport" sub-thread. I already told the OP to take a taxi back to the airport.

I take a car service to the airport. But many friends in JP take the Orange Line. It's easy, low cost, and convenient for them. They know it takes longer and plan for that. The point is that lots of people use the T exclusively without regard to price/time ratio. We all don't make the same choices. And many don't live where Uberx and taxis are minutes outside their doors.

When I lived in the 'burbs and traveled for work, I took a car service.

I no longer have to worry about working or living in the 'burbs, so I generally take the T (or the Logan bus from Copley). People on the T are interesting, even if the scenery isn't.

FWIW, I was talking about time, not money.
