I'm trying to plan a really quick weekend trip to Boston for May 31. Plan to fly in from CLE sometime on Friday p.m. Spend Friday night somewhere in the city. Saturday do the usual touristy stuff in the city. Was thinking to go somewhere for Saturday night and sunday morning. Bf really wants to go to Martha's Vineyard. I had planned to return home sunday pm but we could leave monday instead. Could we possibly fit this in? If not Martha's Vineyard, what is another relaxing place/ beach/ island/ town to get to on the coast? Thank you for your help.

Anywhere on Cape Cod would be nice. Just for one night, probably Centerville Beach or Hyannis is your best bet, not too far down.

Sunday night departure would be much better traffic-wise than Monday morning.

You could take the ferry from Boston harbor to Provincetown on the Cape. marthas Vineyard would just be a whole day of traveling. You would need to rent a car drive to Hyannis or Woods Hole:take the ferry over most likely without your car because tickets for autos are usually sold out.Then once you get there you need to find a room etc.The ferry to P-Town leaves in the morning and returns in the late afternoon. If you can fit that in your schedual I would stay until Monday.

The cape is gorgeous and any part of it is nice versus the trek to Martha's Vineyard...plus the weather may not be as hot as you want that time of the year. Check out Woodshole and if it is nice you can hop on the ferry right there.

A trip to the Cape will take a fair bit of time, and probably not a great idea if you're just in Boston for a weekend (even a long weekend).

If the idea of spending time on an island or two is appealing, how about the Boston Harbor islands? They're an amazing places, almost entirely unknown to tourists (and most locals, for that matter), but a wonderful place to explore. You can get there from downtown Boston on scheduled ferries (http://www.bostonharborcruises.com/f...borislands.htm), and you won't spend your time in an ugly rental car in traffic.

I agree with raineday33. The easiest way to the cape from Boston without a car is to do the Provincetown ferry. It's definitely worth doing.

Here's a third vote for the Provincetown ferry to add to rainday33 and sam's suggestions.

If you want to relax in a beach town just take the ferry from Boston and when you get there just pop into any one of the many bars, restaurants, or clubs along Commercial street. You can just eat, drink and talk with your Bf while watching the activity on Provincetown Harbor. I guarantee you will enjoy and relax and there won't be any driving involved.

You might want to look into some coastal areas closer to Boston that are on the train line, like Gloucester, Rockport, Newburyport. You may find what you are looking for in these places.

Seems too much for "really quick weekend trip" to Boston to add Cape Cod, Cape Ann or MV. Sure, you could cram it all in, but I think you spend too high a percentage of your weekend travelling. Enjoy Boston - save the others for another trip.

Thank you so much for your responses. I like the idea of hopping on a ferry from Boston harbor to either Provincetown or one of the islands that is closer. MV is just too long of a drive to fit into this weekend.

Any tips on affordable accommodation that is centrally located? I'm still trying to keep from renting a car, so somewhere we could get to w/ public transport would be nice. Thanks again!
