Boston 11/11-11/13
a friend and i (couple of southern girls whose husbands don't like to travel) will be in boston nov. 11-13. what should we expect weatherwise? we're from georgia and nov. highs here are in the 60s. we're taking a tour of cambridge, lexington and concord, so what else do you suggest? should we get a visitor's pass? we're staying in the back bay area.

It's difficult to EXPECT weatherwise! Should be in the 50's, but Boston can be cold, so bring warm clothing.

Don't know about the visitor's pass.Lexington and Concord are 30-45 minutes from the Back Bay.

The "T" system of subways, above ground trains, and busses are quite easy to use-now the fare is, I believe, a dollar-maybe you could get a day pass or something. I won't say it's easy to use, but get a subway map at any station or look it up on the Internet (try MTA or Metropolitan Transit Authority)Best way to get around.

I'm from NH but that's close enough!

Weather in New England is so changable that we have a saying something like, if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute! You should check our weather on a local webpage, like www.boston.com (the Boston Globe's page) for a while to get the feel of how changable it can be.

The best way to dress for an early Nov. trip here would be in layers. I'd also include an umbrella or raincoat just in case (and of course, if you bring enough rain/cold gear you won't need it).

As for the visitor's pass, which one were you refering to? The discounts on local museums or the MBTA pass? If it's the T pass and you're only here for the weekend, you'll probably do so much walking you won't need the pass. Boston is a surprizingly small city when you're walking along and enjoying the sights. Plus, you'll be spending a full day away from the T when you go to Lex/Concord, so it probably won't pay for you to get that pass.

Hi Y'all!

You are going to "one great city"!! I would recommend staying and seeing the sites "in town". There is soo much to see! Back bay is a great area for eating and strolling. I would get to Fanuiel Hall area (ask, everyone knows where it is) and just get the flavor of the city. If you find the weather is too cold, you have many stores that will have "Winter Wear", especially "Polartec Fleece" which is a great insulating, light weight garment. But if it gets too-too cold, just stop and get a piping hot bowl of New England Clam Chowder!! Have fun, a great town...and this is from a NYC boy!!!
JOHN

Hi you Southern Belles..here goes... My sister was from Atlanta (Sandy Springs) and these are the things she talked about the most.. Boston is quite different than Atlanta...the downtown city is very safe to walk around in and there is a large police presence..and lots to do at night and Boston is filled with students from all the colleges so it's always alive all hours of the night now... You might want to see the play Blue Man or Shear Madness which has been playing for years. Experience Newbury Street, the art galleries, people watching, sidewalk cafes, the architecture and the most beautiful street in Boston. You don't have to go mall to mall to go shopping, besides Newbury Street there is Boylston Street and Filenes Basement on Washington Street. You should go to Fanuel Hall done by Rouse and Co. the same that did the new Underground Atlanta..Forget your notions of seafood at Red Lobster..try Legal Seafoods, Skip Jack or any restaurant in Boston advertising fresh fish...there is a large difference. From Fanuel Hall you can walk across the street (admittedly with difficulty because of construction) to the waterfront..walk over to the North End (the Italian enclave) have lunch and visit the pastry shops of Mike's Pastry or the Modern..almost any one... Take the train to Cambridge and experience the Harvard Square experience... As for weather being from Georgia it will be cool..wear sweaters, lined raincoats and probably dress in layers.. Please feel free to write me for more specifics..it would be my pleasure.
