Bosque Del Apache

I am interested in photographing birds at Bosque del Apache, New Mexico in Dec. or Jan. Would like to camp nearby. Are the USFS camps open? Has anyone camped there, or anywhere else nearby? Any suggestions?

Are you wanting to tent camp? Temps will be pretty cold once the sun goes down [ per weather.com range of 50 daytime and low's of 20, the 50 seems high to me].

The RV park is perfectly located and the owners are birders but the RV sites often fill up in Nov & Dec. Probably easier to get a spot in January. Here's a good review of it: http://www.rvparkreviews.com/regions...n_Antonio.html

There are motels as cheap as $30 in nearby Socorro (8 miles), where we always stay, in case you get tired of camping in the cold.

In San Antonio (about 1 mile from the RV area) the Owl Cafe is famous for its green chili cheeseburgers and a populuar spot for birdwatchers to flock after sunset.
