Borrego Springs, CA: Anyone know an inexpensive hotel or web site ?
 

Would like an inexpensive, but decent hotel for a few days. Anyone know a place that they liked. Stayed at the Borrego Springs Resort last year. It was nice, but the rooms go now for $109 plus tax with a triple A discount. There must be a better deal out there. Anyone know about a web site or another place to stay? Thanks.

Annetti-Depends on when you are going, but $109 seems pretty reasonable if it's the weekend. I did a quick search and most of the hotels seem to be more. Try hotel.com. You could get a AAA rate for $98 in October for Borrego Springs Resort. Wispering Sands seems to be more. Palm Canyon and Borrego Valley Inn are $130. I think there is a small motel called Hacienda del Sol if I remember right. It would probably be cheaper but can't vouch for its facilities.

To Jimshep: Curious why you did NOT like the Borrego Springs Resort? Was it dirty, rooms dingy, poor service. . .? Thanks.

We found Borrego Springs Resort to be very dated and in need of renovation. We peeked into the restaurant, but it was gloomy and uninviting.

It looked like somebody had great expectations for the place twenty or thirty years ago but the hopes were not realized.

I don't remember anything about the service except that the staff was dressed in look-alike polo shirts trying to create and impression of professionalism.

I see in the AAA Guidebook that special amenities include free continental breakfast and newspaper, but I don't remember these amenities when we visited last year.

Here's a resource for mom and pop motels. www.motelguide.com. It lists three in Borrego Springs. There are no links to websites, but you could call and ask for a brochure, search for them online, or check tripadvisor.

Thanks Jimshep. You sure made the place sound uninviting. We, too found the restaurant "gloomy" and did not eat there. The rooms were adequate, perhaps we were in a rennovated section, though my husband hated the cottage cheese ceilings. Anyone stay at the Whispering Sands? The web site looks okay, but the tel. no is disconnected. I tried, thanks to Island paddler, the web site for motels. The Oasis is only $75. Anyone know the place? What about the Borrego Valley Inn or the Hacienda Del Sol? We prefer a small place, more like a bed and breakfast, or a small European hotel, rather than huge complex. We are definitely not interested in the Casa del Zorro. The dining room there was a real disappointment! Thanks again.

Borrego Valley Inn looks good from its website but they are more than the $109 you wanted to spend, more like $130.

Interesting to hear about the dining room at the Casa Del Zoro. It's been a few years since I was there but I used to go to lunch there when I was visiting for business. Back then I enjoyed their food, guess it's not what it used to be.
