booze cruise
 

after booking a carnival cruise for nov i received the usual confirmation info,etc.etc.in both letters from the cruise line it stated that no outside liquor can be brought aboard at embarkation... my wife and i enjoy a cocktail in our cabin befor dinner..has any one had ther liquor confiscated? this may seem trival,but it took a lot to convince her to go after all the "problems"..if this ruile is enforced we will cancel. any feedback would be grateful

We went on a Carnival Cruise in Feb and brought a huge jug of Vodka & Captain Morgan. I too posted a question on the site and after reading them all, I decided to try to bring it with anyway. When we got to the pier, they just took our luggage, threw it into a big pile and that was it. The guy even told us to lock our luggage. I'm guessing because it's sits in front of your cabin for awhile. One more thing, we brought a water bottle with and filled it with vodka, that way when you lay out on the sundeck, you could just make your own vodka lemonade! For those of you appalled by this, we still spent $700 in extras.

Pack your liquor or wine (carefully) in your luggage. No problem on 6 cruises. And don't the rest of you flame me- we spend PLENTY aboard- just like to have our personal fav wines for special trips.

Just a question from someone whose never been on a cruise - why would people be appalled or flame someone for bringing their own alcohol on board a cruise ship? No one complains about people bringing alcohol to their hotel rooms rather than drinking the stuff in the honor bar. What is the difference?

Heck no I wouldn't flame anyone except the cruise lines for not allowing people to bring in their own liquor. Seriously, they bill themselves as hotels on the high seas, why don't they act like they are? I've never had the Hyatt tell me I couldn't bring in my own bar.

We brought liquor on board Costa in January in our luggage and nothing was said. (We had one small bag with just that in it in case of breakage) However, we also purchased liquor on the Islands and it was confiscated as we returned to the ship and kept for us until after the cruise was over.

Actually I got my a$$ chewed out for posting the same question as jmax on the cruise board back in Feb. Some people seemed so pissed that I would even ask such a question.

I've lurked around on the cruise board a little bit - my husband and I are considering taking a cruise one of these days. I've noticed that there seems to be a lot of a$$ chewing on the cruise board for whatever reason.

My first cruise was a 4-day Carnival cruise (big mistake). I brought 2 bottles of wine in my carry on and it was confiscated prior to embarkation and returned at debarkation.

I have taken Celebrity and Royal Caribbean, both Europe and Caribbean, and bring a roller bag, the type that fits in the overhead compartment on airplanes, and they hold 10-12 bottles of wine carefully bubble wrapped. I have never had them confiscated - total of 4 cruises.

I did have to pay corkage ($8 to $12 per bottle) when I brought the wine to the dining room. I didn't really mind, because it was my homemade stuff, and I considered it far superior to the $25-$30 rot gut that they had to sell to us. ((b))
