It has been quite a few years, but our hotel room was pretty spartan. The furniture was nice, of the type made by the craftsmen, but our room had a very high ceiling with pipes painted but showing. Of course, this is a very old hotel, and it was very clean. The lobby and other downstairs rooms are gracious.
My personal opinion is that the food in the dining room is not nearly as good as it used to be. The last time we went for dinner (two years ago), they still served spoon bread; but the appetizer offerings were not as varied and the main courses were more expensive and less numerous.
I assume you know that the college kids work in the kitchen and dining room.
If you are planning a fall trip, it's a really pretty area.

I hope you will let us know how you like Berea and Boone Tavern.
Do go to see the museum of Appalachia that is a mile or two outside town. I saw a table in the gift shop there that I don't need or have a place for and wouldn't like paying the price asked for it, but it was locally made and the finish was so smooth it felt like satin fabric. There is a casual restaurant in the museum, too.

I wanted to get back in touch on our trip to Berea and staying at the Boone Tavern Hotel. It was great!!! We loved the hotel, the food was superb and the whole area was great. We were there 2 nights, went to Renfro Valley that was fun also. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. We are looking forward to returning.
