Booking with Travelocity and picking seats

I have not booked with Travelocity before and I have a question.

I want to travel from Edmonton (Canada) to Chicago on United Airlines, and then from Chicago to Istanbul on Turkish Airlines.

When I was checking the price, the seat map of United Airlines came up, but not Turkish Airlines.

I called Travelocity and the agent told me that if I want a certain seat they can only request it. All I want is to have a window seat so that I am not stuck in the middle on a 10 hour flight from Chicago to Istanbul.

Does anyone know that if I book with Travelocity, can I call Turkish Airline (with the date, flight number and my name) and secure a seat that way? Thanks

When are you traveling?

If it is less than 100 days from now, then no, it's too late to get a seat assignment.

Just so you won't feel bad about flying Turkish, it is not unusual for international airlines not to book seats in advance, and none guarantees your pre-booked seats.

Get to your United flight early and try to book through at that time.

Thanks. That was easy - when I received the3 email from Travelocity, I was given a confirmation number with Turkish Airline. I called their Call Center, and they were able to retrieve my booking.

Actually I don't quite agree that "it is Unusual for international airlines not to book seats in advance", when I booked Expedia this Fall to Europe, I also called Air Canada and Lufthansa directly after my booking and they gave me the seat I wanted (using Seat Guru to find out the seat plan).

Ackislander: I "do not feel bad about Turkish Airline". I have flown with them a few times and they are much better than many other airlines (Air Canada included).

Bardo - I think it is "if less than 100 days from now, then YES". When I called Turkish Airline today (Nov 30), they were able to give me a seat I wanted for March 3 departure (March 3 is 93 days from Nov 30), but the agent said that I have to wait till Dec 10 to book a seat for my return on March 18.
