Booking Alcatraz
I'm visiting San francisco from the UK for 3 days in May and would like to go to Alcatraz. I've heard that booking tickets in advance is highly recommended. Does anyone know of an Internet site where I can do this?
Thanks in advance,
Roy.

Try www.tickets.com on the internet. If they can't sell you the tickets themselves they will inform you where to buy the tickets.

The Blue & Gold Fleet has an Alcatraz trip. Their web site is at ... http://www.blueandgoldfleet.com

We're checking out SF this week to see if we should take a 13-year-old granddaughter to Alcatraz in April. Your reaction should be interesting.

We took the trip to Alcatraz while visiting San Franciso last September. I booked tickets by phoning the ticket sales number shown on their web site. I think you can only do this about a month in advance, they give you a reference number and you can pick up the tickets from the advance tickets booth on Fishermans Wharf.A tip I got from this site is to book the first trip of the day, (the ferry goes at 9.30am.), this was a good tip as we got to see the place when it was not too crowded, giving you a better insite into what it must have been like when it was still being used as a prison.

DEFINATELY book ahead. We went in July and all tickets were sold out a week in advance. Luckily a person on Fodor's had told me to reserve ahead of time. It was a highlight of our trip. While reserving definately get the audio part also as it made Alcatrez come alive with its stories. As Jan had said go early for less crowds. Also bring a jacket as its cold out on the island.
