Book on N.Y. for kids
Taking our grandkids on a trip to visit relatives on Long Island this summer with a visit into Manhattan a couple of times. Kids are very excited and I'm looking for a book (fiction perhaps) about someone's adventures in New Yrk that would suit 10-11 yr. olds.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Classic that comes to my mind is "From the Mixed Up Files of Basil E. something." I'm totally mangling the name, but it's about two kids who run away to the Met and live there for a few days. I love it. Cricket in Times Square might be a little young, but still classic.

Have fun!

"From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" is the same one I would recommend. Great book.

Don't forget the "Eloise" books, if either of the kids are girls. Eloise was the little girl who lived at the Plaza.

Mixed up Files is indeed a great book. You can find a brouchure about it at http://www.metmuseum.org/explore/pub...ntireGuide.pdf [If the link doesn't work, go to the museum website, clickon explore and learn and then search for mixed.]

Don't forget Stuart Little. Also, several of the American Girl "Samantha" books take place in NYC.

On a different note, Mitch Frank has a great book for kids that explains Sept. 11. You can find it on Amazon.
