if you are booking infants (esp 2 infants) you usually need to call the airline.

Esp if you're not booking seats for them. Obviously you can;t have one adult and 2 "lap" kids.

A Medal of Honor for Mom ... except that I'd never have any kid (let alone two of them) travel as a lap kid. It's a Sophie's Choice as to whom to buckle in and whom to carry "loose" for take-off, landing, and turbulence.

Perhaps the airline will raise the necessary questions when she calls.

Agree - in turbulence lap kids can easily become flying objects. It is NOT possible to hold onto a chile if the flight encounters real turbulence - and is a major safety hazard not only to the poor child but to other passengers.

Mom of the twins may be interested in the purchase of a CARES harness. This was recommended some time ago by another Fodor poster BKP http://www.kidsflysafe.com -

Is mom traveling solo?

No way she'll be able to handle a lap kid with another in a seat. Book two seats.

Refer to the post in the lounge about the poster who got stuck in the bathroom during a bad ride.

Who is mom going to do about the oxygen mask? Only one per seat.

Give it to the kid and she dies or vice versa.

Not a smart move.

As a parent who traveled several times/year with one infant and then toddler alone (parents lived 1000 miles away), I can not imagine one person traveling with young twins that age. What if she has to use the bathroom, wants to eat. How will she maneuver thru airport? And then the nightmare of dealing with 2 unseated kids on the plane.

This sounds extremely difficult. I would at the very least suggest a seat for BOTH of the children! Then they could get a row of 3 to themselves.

Does the airline even allow just one adult for two under-twos? I sure wouldn't attempt it myself.....I'm not that brave!
