Bologna for lunch?
 

My friends and I are going to train it from Venice to Florence and would like to know if anyone can suggest a lunch spot in Bologna.

We'll probably tuck the lugage in a locker in the train station then walk around a bit before getting on the next train to Florence.

Since this is on the US board, I assumed you were hunting for a sandwich. Reminds me of the scene in Coal Miner's Daughetr when he tells Loretta that "bologna/boloney makes you....better not say it here...

Do you watch "The Office"? For the boss's birthday, Dwight ordered subs for the office - all Bologna and catsup - no one would eat them!

They sell fried bologna at the Texas State Fair; we got one order of it once, thinking there must be more to it ... but no, it was fried bologna (just like mama used to make!)

The only way to Bologna sandwich is the fried route...if you must.

Cold Bologna....yuck! Make it into olive loaf and....double yuck.

That's not a knee, it's a long tube of bologna.

Your mention of the fried baloney at the Texas State Fair made me think of a recent newspaper story about a contest for new varieties of food to be offered at this year's State Fair.

Among the delicacies:

- Fried Coke ("Smooth spheres of Coca-Cola-flavored batter that are deep fried, drizzled with pure Coke fountain syrup, topped with whipped cream, cinnamon sugar and a cherry. Served in souvenir contoured glasses.")

- Battered Fried Praline Perfection

- Fried peanut butter, jelly and banana sandwiches

- Fried Ice Cream

- Fried Mac-n-cheese

- A deep-fried Ballpark frank- and cheese-stuffed burrito

- Fried Choco-rito ("A flour tortilla stuffed with marshmallows, coconut, candy bar pieces, caramel morsels and cinnamon then dipped in pancake batter and deep-fried to a crispy, crunchy outside and sweet, gooey inside. Drizzled with honey and topped with whipped cream.")

Yeah, I heard that the fried praline thing won the taste test yesterday.

Last year we tried the fried peanut butter and banana sandwich (a la Elvis) and it was pretty good! The fried Twinkies, however, are not a favorite.

The beauty of going to the State Fair with a family 5 is that we can order one order of all of this wild fried stuff, each have one bite, then judge whether we want more (we hardly ever do!) I admit, however, that the chocolate covered key kime pie on a stick is a winner!!!!
