Bob Krauss, Hawaii Icon, passes away

Bob Krauss, one of the most celebrated columnists in Hawaii, passed away this weekend. His gentle style was above all fun, educational and informative, and will greatly be missed.

I had the privilege of working with him on several maritime related stories over the last year and a half. We also worked on the annual Honolulu Harbor Festival, in which he would dress up like an old-time sailor to get into the spirit of things. Our most recent correspondence was trying to figure out WHO the ghost was on the Falls of Clyde. There's no official record of a ghost, but we've heard a few people talk about it. He loved the ship so much that he figured, if we could find out who the ghost was, that might be an added draw. Hopefully, he can find out now that he's "on the other side" and somehow let me know!

MelissaHi - Though I never met him, I can only imagine that that would be just like him, to let you know now :-d. Maybe he and Tommy Holmes will confer "over there" and you'll get a response. Anything for the Falls of Clyde. You were very fortunate to know him. I miss his columns already :s

Hi k - I can't believe you never met him in person! I've never ever met anyone so passionate about Hawaii's maritime industry. Oh, and "tall ships." Tall ships were an interest of his.
