Boat trip to Key West?
We visited the Florida Keys last year and I absolutely loved Key West.As we are regular visitors to Florida is there an easier way to reach Key West other than the beautiful, but time consuming, drive along the keys?Is there a boat trip from anywhere such as Fort Myers or Naples? We usually stay in Orlando area and would love to visit Key West again.

Both ferry's leave from Ft. Myers Beach area, around 7 a.m. return around 10 or 10:30. p.m. Takes about 4-5 hours one way, but won't run if the weather is too rough or bad. Coupons have been in the Ft Myers News-Press for about $99. |
Thanks for that information. We will incorporate the trip into our next visit.

I have posted this warning before.
If you have a fixed plan for using the ferry to get to KW make sure you have a back up plan because the ferry is frequently cancelled due to "high seas." On the day we had planned to take the ferry from KW to FT Myers is was cancelled. and it was cancellend for 3 days in a row. we had to rent a car and make the 8-hour drive :( |
I just returned from Key West, round-trip from Ft Myers on the Key West Express "Big Cat."
The ferry leaves Ft Myers at 9am -- I'd suggest arriving at 7:30 to pick up your admission ticket and guarantee a seat inside (air-conditione), if that's what you want. The trip took 3.5 hours, both ways, and the Gulf was smooth as a lake, fortunately. In Key West, the ferry departs at 5 or 6pm. Again, arrive early to check-in. In KW, the waiting area is air-conditioned (but not in Ft Myers). Enjoy! |
