Boat Ride to Key West
I know I saw something here about 6 or so months ago about a ferry that takes people from either St Pete or Naples/Ft Myers to Key West. For some reason, my search didn't turn up the post. Anyway, I seem to remember that most people who responded weren't in favor of the trip. Well, a friend has suggested that we do this in the next few months, instead of flying to Key West. Does anyone have any info about it? Thoughts? Theories? Suggestions? Thanks.

The Key West Express runs from Marco Island to KW. The cost was around $80 one way. It's about a 31/2-4 hour trip one way and if it gets rough you are in for a wild ride. If you are prone to sea sickness I would advise you to fly rather than take it.

The url is: www.keywestwaterexpress.com

As for flying, Cape Air runs service between Naples/Ft. Myers to Key West. Their 800 # is: 1-800-352-0714.

There are a couple of boat rides to Key West. One leaves the dock at Marco Island & the others leave Ft. Myers & Naples. Go to the websites & see which one best suits you.

http://www.keywestwaterexpress.com/
http://www.keywestshuttle.com/
http://www.naples.net/travel/keywest.html

The Cape Air website is http://www.flycapeair.com/ & here is Florida Air if you like to visit it to get comparisons: http://www.floridaair.com/
I was one of the posters who was not in favor of this trip. I have done it. Picture riding for 4 hrs in a convertible at 80mph on a very rough road. Granted the boat doesn't go that fast but the feeling is the same. If you're planning a round trip in one day, you'll have about 2 1/2 hours in Key West. Not nearly enough time.

My wife and I did this a couple of years ago from Naples. It was a 5 hour ride each way. While the trip down was pleasant, coming back was very rough and miserable. We would not do this again.
