Boardwalk or Tropicana

We are going to Las Vegas in June. Would love to stay at all the really great hotels yall talk about all the time but trying to save money to do fun things. I really have narrowed it down to the Boardwalk or Tropicana. I am leaning toward BW because it's location. I hope you can tell me it will be an ok place to stay.

Nope, can't tell you that. The Boardwalk is an overpriced dump with clumsy theming.

The Tropicana is old Vegas, but the pool area is nice and the place is a much better deal.

Why not kick up a little more money and stay at a nicer, newer (though stunningly middle-of-the-road) resort like the Monte Carlo? Or the slightly overpriced but ideally-located Harrah's?

dixie,

If those are your only choices, go with the Tropicana.

Have you checked out the Stardust or Ballys or Flamingo or Harrahs? Any of those would be a better choice if the price is right for you. Might also look into the Barbary Coast.

Have Fun!

The tropicana IS old. The Boardwalk is a dump. I agree, search around and you will find just as good of deal (maybe a bit more) for a nicer newer hotel. Paris always has specials, and the Monte Carlo, and Aladdin. You may try looking on your own, but also contacting a travel agent. They can book it through funjet, or MLT and many times the prices are less, especially if you need airfare. Personally, I like the Aladdin. I do not care fo Ceasears.

We've stayed at the Tropicana and loved it. Good location for us as we like that end of the Strip. The pool is fabulous. Casino small and not hard to navigate. The Island Tower is towards the back and close to the pool, spa, shops and restaurants. The Paradise Tower is closer to the casino and front doors. We stayed in the Island Tower and didn't have any problem walking to the front door.

I agree with the others, the Boardwalk is not a very nice place. I would never stay there.

We also enjoyed the Stardust, which was cheaper than the Tropicana, but its on the other end of the Strip and a little inconvenient to get where we wanted to be. I wouldstay there again though.

We just booked the Monte Carlo for July. Their web-site special is $10 off each day. We booked for a Sat., Sun., and Mon and it averaged to $100 for each day. Might check all the hotels web-sites for pricing and sign up for e-mail specials.

Another vote for the Tropicana - yes, it is old, but it's still fine. The pool is GREAT. In fact there are a few of them, and one (and the spa near it) are open all night. The location is very convenient and the staff is friendly. I'm a LV local and we get a room there when my nieces visit in the summer because they love the pool and we always have a nice stay.

The Boardwalk is slated for demolition soon - it's owned by MGM/Mirage - and they're not investing a dime in anything to do with it anymore so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
