Is it better to post a new thread each time I update my plans or stay with the old thread? I am planning an itinerary and have lots of questions!!!

puttakka, I think most posters prefer that you post to your original thread. I can see different threads for different cities or areas you are visiting, i.e, "things to do in Philadelphia" and "what should I see in NY?" It will be easier to find all the good advice people give you, if you only use 1 or 2 threads.

I think that if information in the thread is important to the new question, then post to the old thread - that way people don't have to try and remember what you are up to. But if they are stand alone questions, then certainly start a new thread.

Sometimes, new threads can be nice because people don't have to wade through the side conversations and all of that to see new questions - sometimes if a thread is too involved, new questions get missed.

J_Correa summed it up beautifully.

Often a thread will start with a question about narrowing down to three countries or three cities. But eventually it has been determined where the poster is going and the conversation has switched to specific hotels and restaurants in their now chosen destination. In my opinion, by then it is past time to have started a new thread.

As said above - It is best to keep your itinerary and questions on one thread as long as the old thread provides helpful background info for your new questions. ((*))

I say keep it all together, unless the focus has changed enough to merit a new posting. Or if the thread gets way too long of goes off-topic, start fresh. Or you truly have a new question, like you were asking about hotels in Paris and now you need help with train in Italy, for example.

Similar question to the OP was in my mind. We are planning a drive down the East Coast and back, so I posted separately on individual issues (DC, Florida, BBQ).

If we actually get an itinerary together for the WHOLE trip, then we can ask about individual elements of it, but we are not near that (although much nearer thanks to this board!).

If you have multiple even unrelated questions about one area, I'd add to your original thread. I tend to search for posts with my name in them, so if you want to ask the people who posted on your first thread about something, even unrelated, go with adding to the first thread.
