Bluff, Escalante, Moki dugway

I keep going back to southern Utah every month. This time I would like to explore the Bluff area.We enjoy hiking, pictographs, rock hounding. We will also be returning to Hole in the Rock road out of Escalante.I would also like any feedback on The Grand Gulch area and if Moki dugway is easily passable in a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Thank you.

In Bluff, the recapture lodge is a good
motel to stay and they have a lot to
explain on the area...
For Grand Gulch, road are without gravel==>I'm not sure that it's always
passeable even with a 4 wheel.
Jay of Farout expeditions knows very well the region and could give you more
precisions. We have been with him a full day this summer in Grand gulch to
explore some ruins and pictogramms :
it's a very wild part of utah, with
ruins and rockarts very well preserved,
but very difficult to explore without
knowing where to go because there is not
really precise trails...
So, if you can have a "point of view" with him it can be usefull before
exploring by yourself...
They have a website : farout.com
and you can salute Jay from part of us, Erik and Anny froim France.
Bluff is really , for us, one of the gemm of southwest and a good basecamp to
explore this region from Monument valley to canyonlands and also Howenweep,...

PS and lucky you to be able to drive there every month...A little too...far
for us...

I'd also recommend Hovenweep if you haven't been there yet. Newspaper Rock and the Needles District of Canyonlands aren't too far from Bluff.

I'm glad you keep coming back to Utah.

Not far from Escalante is Calf Creek Falls that is on the road going over the Boulder Mountains to Torrey. It is worth a side-trip to hike around.

Close to Bluff, on the way to Mexican Hat and Monument Valley is the Goosenecks, which is pretty and is also worth a stop.

Depending on the weather, the roads in and around the Gulch can get dicey. Good luck.

Thank you for your replies. I am a newcomer to this web site. I can see that there are a number of Utahlovers out there. Very pleasing.

Re: Moki Dugway. Had no trouble at all with our 2WD sedan on a dry day. It was great fun and one of the highlights of our vacation. Do it!!!
