Blue Whale Inn, RI

We will be staying here for 4 day weekend in August. Looking for activities in the area, restaurant recs, etc. Anyone been to Ellas? Day spa you can recommend? Thanks!

We like East Beach, Dogwatch in Stonington and Matunick Oyster.

The very tony Ocean House Hotel in the very tony town of Watch Hill, RI has a spa. No idea of its quality and the price is sure to be astronomical but here you go: http://www.oceanhouseri.com/oh-spa

Watch Hill itself is a pleasant town to spend a few hours on a non-beach day. Good local ice cream, high end shops, etc.

Stonington Borough has a wonderful collection of 18th and 19th century buildings, a couple of popular restaurants and some unusual shops.

You're only about 20 minutes from Mystic Seaport, if that appeals.

Haven't been to Ella's but our neighbors enjoyed it. Note that pretty much all the restaurants in the area will be jammed for dinner, and that many do not take reservations, so be ready for long waits or early dinners. Matunick Oyster Bar, mentioned above, has begun taking reservations this season, and is definitely a cut above the usual seafood/beach restaurant.

The Kayak Centre offers rentals on nearby Ninigret Pond. http://www.kayakcentre.com/locations.htm

Good take-away sandwiches and prepared meals at Sandy's. http://www.sandysfinefoods.com

Good take-away fried chicken at Dunns Corners Market. http://www.dunnscornersmarket.com

The Pequot Museum at the Foxwoods casino is a good place to spend a couple of hours on a rainy day. http://www.pequotmuseum.org/Default.aspx

And of course you can always take a ferry out to Block Island.

Perhaps ask the Inn for spa recommendations. There are probably some in Westerly.

I remember the old Ocean House Fra and the history of the detailed rebuild rather then restore. I haven't been in and have a feeling the sloping floors were not replicated.

You could go for a nice lunch and/or drinks on the veranda of the Ocean House Hotel in Watch Hill.

A few miles down the road:

My favorite in Stonington Burrough is Noha's.

In Mystic on the Stonington side of the river, try R24 right on the river.

In Mystic on the Groton side of the river Daniel Packer Inn - downstairs is more casual.

Inakauaidavidababy --

Yes, the old Ocean House was a wonder. I haven't been to the reincarnation either. Have to get a better car to park alongside the Lamborghini I saw last time I drove past.
