Blue Ridge Parkway Trip
My husband and I and two other couples will be taking a five day trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway in mid September. We will be starting at MP 50 (Buena Vista) and traveling the length of the Parkway and on into Gatlinsberg TN. We would like to spend the night in Roanoke, Boone,Maggie Valley, and Gatlinsburg. Does anyone have any recommendations for places to stay and restaurants? Also any suggestions on places to be sure to see on or near the parkway or in Gatlinsburg?

I like the food at the Chateau Morrisette near Meadows of Dan, VA. Great place for dinner or lunch. If you are in the area of Floyd, VA on a Friday night, drop in to the town and follow the music. Best bluegrass ever!
Have a great trip. |

Homeplace Restaurant
4968 Catawba Valley Drive Roanoke, VA 24070 540-384-7252 We used to live in Roanoke and loved this place! A converted farm/plantation house reminiscent of going to grandmother's to eat! Family style service with platters of fried chicken, country ham, homecooked vegetables, brought right to the table. Don't skip dessert! Thursday through Sunday, dinner only and Sunday lunch. Don't be surprised if you wait to get in, but there's rockers on the front porch. Their out in the country location defies the rule that location is everything. :-) |
I'd recommend you stay at the Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock instead of staying in Boone. Lots of good restaurants nearby. Visit Grandfather Mountain and Moses Cone Park.
