Blue Ridge Mountains Skyline Drive
Is the Skyline drive scary ? I have difficulty driving on bridges (gephyrophobia) & close to cliff edges/dropoffs - almost had to stop in middle of 7 Mile Bridge out to the Florida Keys.
Thoughts appreciated ! |
I answered on your other thread but no it is not scary. The mountains in the east are really old, and therefore low. The parkway allows for overlooks. It really is an entirely different thing than that bridge.

Great thanks - I didn't want to get on it & have a problem.
There was a 40mph lower speed limit on 7 mile bridge, which I struggled to meet as I was crawling along, but note that there's a 35 mph upper speed limit on the Skyline Drive, which helps me ! |
Get ready for low speed limits
|
Yes, the speed limits are pretty low, the drive is pretty but have never driven it the entire length in one go, just due to the slow speed.

It is certainly beautiful, and not scary compared to many roads we travel, but it may or may not work for some people.
We had been on it occasionally in the past, in summer. However, we ventured onto it one March a couple of years ago (when the trees were barren, and there was fogginess) and had a much different experience - both of us became very carsick and had to stop a number of times. FWIW, this was the area between Sperryville down to 33. http://www.visitskylinedrive.org/Wha...ine-Drive.aspx |
Not scary but I will say it made me nauseated which came as a surprise. I get seasick but have never been motion sick on a train, in a car, etc.
