Fort Lewis Lodge in Millboro, VA, is wonderful.
Also, check out both the Washington Post site at www.washingtonpost.com and Washingtonian Magazine at www.washingtonian.com for their recommendations.

Not sure if you are interested in Shenandoah/Skyline Drive (which is the northern part of the Blue Ridge Mountains) but if so, this site below has some information on lodges/cabins along Skyline Drive:

http://www.visitshenandoah.com/accommodations.htm

We have stayed at both Skyland and Big Meadows and enjoyed both.

We enjoyed Jordan Hollow Farm, a B&B in Luray. We did the caverns and hiked in the park. Its a lovely area.

I recommend the Boar's Head Inn in Charlottesville, VA for lodging. It offers golf, spa, tennis, and Charlotteville's only 4-star restaraunt. I would also recommend that you visit Monticello (Thomas Jefferson's residence), tour the UVA campus, and head across Afton Mountain to Lexington, VA. I'm an alum of Washington & Lee University in Lexington, so I may be a bit biased, but it's a beautiful campus (you can also tour the VMI campus next door) situated in a quaint downtown with wonderful shops. I would also recommend driving along the Skyline Drive.
