Blue Man Group Oppinions

OK. I am planning a trip to Boston and everyone seems to strongly recommend going to see the Blue Man Group. However we are not big on Broadway musicals (however we liked the lion king) and it seems kinda ridiculous to spend 70-90 dollars to watch a bunch of guys in blue makeup dance around. Has anyone seen the show and can tell me what you thought. Also we may end up attending the show with are kids and are wondering i a 9 and 13 year old would enjoy it enough to justify the high prices?

I loved it! I saw the one in Boston (and the same show in Chicago) and I think it's fun. I really enjoyed the music (it's live) and of course, what the Blue Men do just defy anything you can think of. I can't really think of a good way to describe the show besides weird and funny. It is nothing like a Broadway show (ok, like the one Broadway show I've seen, City of Angles).

As for spending $$ on it, I can't advise you. It just depends on how much you value seeing something weird and funny...

I do think kids would enjoy it; I don't remember any cursing, but it's been a few years, so other people might be better suited to advise you on that.

That's CIty of Angels. You'd think I'd know, my cousin wrote the lyrics.

First of all, according to Ticketmaster website, seats are $48 and $58 - I know (refer to another thread on Ticketmaster) there are all sorts of other fees, but it is not $90/ticket.

Blue Man Group (I have seen Boston production several times over past 10 years) really is fun for every age. It can be difficult to find something that will entertain your 9 and 13 year olds and also parents.

When you buy tickets, you may see some seats are listed as "partially obstructed view" - they are still fine and you miss a tiny corner of the stage - it is not like there is a giant support beam in the row in front of you. There are also sections called "poncho sections" - these are closer to stage and mean you may get some splashes, not that you get soaked like at Seaworld Whale show or anything like that.

The venue in boston is quite small - nothing like the mega-halls that Broadway productions perform in, so besides being nothing like a Broadway show, it is a completely different experience.

After reading your post, I was trying to find a good way to describe what it is like - but maybe that is what is so much fun about it - it is almost indescribable.

And as a disclaimer or explanation - I tolerate Broadway musicals, enjoy some plays, can not stand comedy club type things - and would still highly recommend Blue Man Group.

I have seen BMG in NYC 3 times and loved it each time. It is in a very small venue {sounds similar to what's being described on here as to what the Boston venue is like}. Took my son, then 13 or so twice. He LOVED it.

It is not like anything I'd ever seen on Bway in all the many years I lived in NY.

Go -- with the kids. If you laugh at silly things; at amazing things; at Monty Python; at Fawlty Towers etc you will enjoy this too.

Hope this helps...

I would think your kids would love it - it isn't just a bunch of guys in blue dancing around - there is constantly something to watch on stage and the time passes quickly - they do creative things with sound, sights, etc and my kids loved it at that age and have been a few times since - I would also say it is nothing like a Broadway musical, to me - it is a mix of music, entertainment, funny bits - and perfectly appropriate for that age and adults !
You will all laugh and come out smiling adn won't be bored - it's been around a long time in Boston (and elsewhere) because it is such a 'fun take'

We chaperoned a student trip. The kids loved it. It's a good show although not $70-90 worth so I hope the tickets are more like $48 which is about what we paid. My husband didn't care for it but he hates cities and the Blue Men reminded him of our son and his garage band (except they never painted themselves blue).

My 28 yr old daughter and I saw the show off-broadway and neither of us can tell you a time we laughed more. It is quite unique. Have to say there were a couple of times I wanted ear plugs but I'd go again in a flash. Your kids will love it. Re: the expense...creating a memory is worth it.

I hate to turn this in to a Blue Man Group fan club meeting, but we saw it in Las Vegas and would see it again. I can't imagine a kid (young or old) not being amazed by the experience.

Go see it! Your kids will love it as will you. We took our 17 and 15 yr olds there 2 yrs ago and the audience was full of kids of all ages and parents . Everyone was laughing and clapping and it was great to see all the smiles when the show was finished. My husband and I felt that there was so much going on during the show that we all talked about it for days afterwards.
